  • Is it not possible to make good progressives?

    Hi all.

I've tested four or five sets of progressive lenses, the latest being touted as "premium" and some others as "wide field..." and found that the reading zone is mostly useless.

You have a few millimeters of clear vision in the very middle, but any deviation outside that results in a double image. You can't even read one page of a paperback book with these.

Yet bifocals can cross the entire frame.

What is the problem here? Why can't we retain the wide reading zone and simply feather it into the mid range and then again into the upper range? The current status quo is a pathetic and degraded visual experience for the customer.

    Oscar Goldman, "optician".

A man whose faith in progressives is barely alive.

"We can rebuild it...We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first wide near-zone PAL. Varilux Comfort2 Max will be that PAL. Wider than it was before. Wider...clearer...more expensive!"

Sounds you need to have a talk with an actual optician about your lenses and your expectations for them.
