A few weekends back, I decided I needed a quick mental health road trip. So I got in the car, and headed north. 5 hours later, I found myself at the West Yellowstone entrance to America's first National Park. I had hoped for some night images with the Milky Way reflecting in thermal pools, but planned poorly (meaning not at all) and the waxing moon was camped right over the core.
I still got a few shots that were alright - if not what I had envisioned initially.
About 11 pm, I realized I didn't have my headlamp (or any bear spray) and the area around West Thumb where I was, wasn't very familiar to me. So, I decided to come home. Got back to the house about 4:30 am, and stayed up another hour or so dumping files, and doing some preliminary editing. All in all, a very fun "day" trip up and back.
