    Weird question: extremely stinky lenses

I have a pair of lenses that when ran under water (any temperature, but espeically warm water), smell terribly. Like a chemical or sulfur. The smell take a good 10 minutes to go away and is so bad it's made my stomach sick. Obviously a solution would be to only use wipes, but sometimes I can only use water.

My main question is "why" or maybe some theories as to what's causing this? I don't remember what coatings I got, but I believe I did the anti-smudge option. They are 2 yrs old and very prone to smudges as of recently.

Probably Zeiss lenses. I know their coatings stink.
