Gosh darnit! Not the words you nor I wanted to hear. Wish it was an awful April Fool's joke :(
I had been meaning to reach out to you. So wanted to meet you at SECO, but then ended up having to cancel the trip. Between some health issues of my own, family and work drama.. going to a show doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.
Take care Gary! Beat this freaking cancer, and keep your chin up! ((HUGS))

The Mrs. and I are thinking of you Gary, wishing you the best!
Hang in there Gary!
We are pulling for you Buddy!
Best of luck for you GMC. I have recently became more aware of this illness lately. My sister had her lymphoma diagnosis around 2 weeks ago. She goes for her biopsy and port implant today. I am anxious to hear the results. Her lymphoma was brought on by treating rheumatoid arthritis. She is so far behind the eight ball right now I feel things look rather bleak for her.
I will be closely following this thread looking for positive results for you.
May the Lord bless you and keep you
May the Lord make his face shine on you
and give you peace.

Gary's sister has updated his FB page. Our friend and colleague has lost his battle.
"I want to thank all of my FB family and friends for all the prayers for my brother in recent months. It is with a very heavy heart that I let y'all know Gary McArrell came to the end of his journey, his hard-fought battle with cancer, this morning. He has joined our parents and older brother in their eternal home. So many have inquired about Gary during the last year and I so appreciate the love and support he received. He touched many lives in his life and I know he will be missed. When final arrangements are complete, I will let everyone know. Thanks again, dear ones. ~~Gail"

He was a wonderful man, and I am deeply saddened to hear this news. He fought hard, however, and I know he is in a better place. Keeping you all in my prayers.
So very sad. My thoughts are with his family.

I'm sad to hear this. My prayers to his family....
Very sad to hear this. I think I speak for many here when I say that I consider the regulars here family in a way, and while I have never once spoken personally to Gary, I am truly saddened that he has died. My deepest sympathies to his family.
Gail, Gary McArrell's sister called me on Memorial Day to tell my Gary had lost his battle to lymphoma. I was stunned. He was getting radiation treatments and was so upbeat and optimistic the last time I had spoken with him. This was unexpected.
I'm glad to see Gail posted here as Gary had many friends in the industry and his loss will be felt by all of us. Why? Gary was a 'giver'! He would freely share his knowledge and offer help to any and all. And he had a LOT of knowledge! I had the humble privilege to teach with Gary for several years at SECO, where he would volunteer his time and assistance at the Basic and Advanced Lensometry workshops as well as the Fresnel Prism workshop. He taught frame repair and adjustment as well. He loved Alabama football and had big plans to put on some conferences in Florida once he beat his cancer.
I'm so saddened by his passing. He was my friend. He always had a positive word to say and would help with any questions I had. He helped me pass my ABO exam and even wrote a book called "PASS THE ABO". It is an excellent resource for anyone attempting to pass the ABO exam. I do not know if, or how long, it will be available now that he has left us. God Speed to you Gary. You are appreciated and missed. Our community has lost one of the truly great ones. RIP.
