    Very Sad today

My dog ran away on saturday night. We were at out campground, and she freaked out at the fireworks. We didn't know she was outside, thought she was locked in our camper. We've looked everywhere, and done everything we can think to bring her home. Please send out some good thoughts to me! My kids are a mess, and I'm not too far behind.

That's the absolute worst! I've accidentally let a beloved pet out behind me with full arms at the cabin. Good luck!

Awwww...that's devastating! Tattoo? Tags? Perhaps someone local, or another camper will find doggie? Wishing you the best of luck!

Hope she makes her way home soon. It is amazing how these pets can find their way home, even after we have given up hope. We once had a dog that was actually stolen from our yard. 6 months later I was hearing a tapping on the front door and was shocked when I opened the door and there he was. Nothing but skin and bone, with a shredded hind leg from his escape. However we were all happy to be reunited and he lived with us for many years to come.

Have you checked in with local shelters and human society? Posted on Facebook for friends to share?

We've done quite a bit of the stuff one would do now a days to locate the dog. posters, letting the local officials know, registering with lost dog organizations, driving all over the place. My husband and I hiked about 10 miles through the woods around the campground. My mother formed a prayer chain. It was a pretty crappy end to our vacation. Facebook has been pretty helpful. I shared it on the local news page, and that's gotten over a thousand likes.

The problem is she is a novelty dog. There aren't too many Saint Bernards out there, and there was a lot of people at the campground. We were all watching the fireworks, and while I had put her in my camper, there were quite a few people who went in and out after i left. I am kicking myself for not rechecking before the fireworks started. We also had a power failure earlier in the day, and our electronic fence apparently failed but we didn't know, since she never breaches the boundaries. Hindsight. I just hope that if she was in fact stolen that they treat her well.

6 years ago we adopted a husky from a breeder's kennel (we later learned they were going to shoot her -she couldn't be bred because her legs were too short for confirmation standards, and they had just shot another one because it tangled with a porcupine and they didn't want to pay the vet fees) - she came home with us, and two days later had dug herself out of our dog run, with a 6 foot fence! We searched all over, and did the usual things like flyers, radio announcements, etc. We were afraid she didn't know the area (about 35 miles from her original home). However, on the 5th day she arrived at our house, hungry and thirsty, at about 4 in the morning. She has been with us ever since, and is a good member of our small sled team, and a funny member of our family. Don't worry.... your pup may just come back on her own! I was amazed at how much they could "imprint" about a location. Stolen? Well. that's a different issue. I wouldn't steal a St. Bernard... the food budget is more than ours!

So sorry to hear of your dog. I agree with Sharon, don't lose hope yet, the dog might well come home.

Hoping all turns out well for you. Fireworks are lovely to watch, but pets generally hate them.

Annie, was she micro-chipped? If so, then you may want to contact your Vet to check which registry he is on. It's a long shot but if he was found by someone who wants to return her then that may be one way.

Good luck! I hope you get her back soon.

That's super sad- I'll be sending super strong -find your way home safely- vibes to the big old pooch. In the mean time, I would spend time with the kids thinking up all the secret adventures she must be going on, the more ridiculous, the better. Maybe she is a member of a super secret puppy patrol force, saving the world from bacon stealing bumble bees, or maybe Santa came by and needed help training new reindeer how to pull his sleigh. I'd even send postcards from crazy places with a paw print on it, stuff like that. I'm a sucker for keeping kids dreaming and imagining and hoping.

Thanks! Can I rent you? Just an hour or two a day to distract the kids so I could do normal things, like take a shower or go to the bathroom.

We've done lots of stuff. From flyers, dog rescues all over new England, Facebook, craig's list, word of mouth and all the local dog pounds/vets/rescues/finder people. My husband finally just took the next few days off and will be dedicating them to searching for her around where we lost them.

The most amazing thing about this is that total strangers offering to search for her. It just makes us realize how whether we find her or not, we must pay this forward.

She came back!!!!!!!!!! My husband just called me to tell me that that she showed up and started barking at some guys site in the campground. they called the park manager and my husband went to get her. She must have been eating because she didn't look skinny, but she smells to holy hell of skunk cabbage and her beautiful white tail is pretty black. I can't seem to post photos from computer, but once my ipad is charged, i'm gonna post a photo, just because I can! Thanks for all the good thoughts from you all!

Hooray! I told ya... they can imprint a location so fast! Good luck with the smell... ours had to be bathed several times until she didn't smell like swamp. I am so happy this turned out well!

That's great news Annie! If you haven't had her micro-chipped you should do it as soon as possible.
