I have decided I want to learn to speak spanish. I have been looking at online courses but have no clue which one to pick. Has anyone ever used something similar or know someone who has? Any reviews or suggestions would be mucho appreciado!

Get some tapes from B and N or Borders. Then hire a Spanish person to run your edger. That's what I did. It helped a bunch. I am still a student.
I'm using a set of cd's I picked up at Costco. I keep them in the car so I'm free to practice where no one can hear me.
I've been thinking of doing the same things. Anyone ever use RosettaStone?

I know some spanish. My dad is Mexican, but he moved back to his country when I was 5, so I wasn’t raised with it.
Studied it in high school and college though.
SI SE PUEDE!!!

I've heard great things about Rosetta stone, too. Took spanish for 3 yrs but need to start over again so I may be with you on starting a course as well!
I also heard you can download "coffee break" spanish courses for your ipod.
I know enough Spanish to.....
Count to 10
Order a beer ( AND request 1 more!)
Pick a fight
Get slapped in the face by a pretty girl.
:D:cheers::D
I know enough to get kicked out of every bar in Mexico, Spain, etc, etc.....
I know "Por favor", "Gracias", "Si and No", "Como esta" "Bien" and "Donde esta los banos?" I was actually complimented on my pronunciation while shopping at a straw market in the Dominican Republic. I think they were also pleased that I also made an effort to speak in their language, as limited as I was :D
My bf and I are seriously thinking about trying Rosetta Stone, even though a complete course is like, $500. I'd like to brush up on my German, and he'd like to get back to Spanish. I've forgotten so much since I took 3 years of it in high school. I got straight A's in German all 3 years, but I did terribly at English. Go figure!
I had 2 years or Spanish and 3 years of Latin (courtesy of the Jesuits) in High School. Still remember bits and pieces but it would be nice to be able to converse in Spanish.

Check out Rocket Spanish before you buy Rosetta Stone. I have been reading up on it and it seems like a good course and is way cheaper. I have read great reviews about it too. I think it's what I may go with.

Ah, now German I have fun with. I know a few words, my Grandmother was from "the old country". She taught me a folk song that I can rattle off without the tune and impress people with my accent and (fake) comand of the language...
This is surely not spelled right, but goes.....
" Zine alaphant so grosses tear, vish zine arsh mit zompaper".
Which translates to....
" The elephant so big and strong wipes his a** with sandpaper."
Yes, granny was a hoot!!
:D:cheers::D
Nettie,
If you want/need to practice Spanish with an actual person there are groups on this site that sometimes meet for coffee & have lessons. Sometimes its for free or can be as low as a $1.00 per meet up.
Just go to the site and do a search for your area. Just an idea. This site has tons of other groups too, not just Spanish stuff. :D P.S. I do not work for them, just happen to be a meet up member of a Vancouver based photography group.

You might check with your local medical society or hospital. Many of them offer classes in foreign languages specifically geared to your geographical area. In the Central Massachusetts area they at one time offered Vietnamese, Russian and Creole representing new emigrant populations. I felt comfortable doing patient encounters in Russian in a few weeks.
Both! Lol. Actually, that was a pretty basic sentence, easy to translate. It's the conversational, every-day Deutsch that I have a hard time with, as a lot of the colloquialisms and idioms tend to escape me :D
