Debate tonight!
In setting the ground rules for this debate contrasted with the three presidential appearances involving Barack Obama and John McCain, Lindsey Graham, one of McCain's closest senatorial confidantes, in negotiating for the Republican ticket reportedly "insisted" that the vice presidential encounter be devoid of question format byplay. This format direct responses and a monologue design avoiding candidate interaction.
The ploy is yet another example of seeking to protect Palin. Republican strategists have been criticized for using this protective strategy. Such criticism is valid since, as former Reagan campaign lieutenant Ed Rollins stated, by over controlling a candidate that individual becomes less confident and spontaneous, reflecting an overly defensive response to events. While it is true that Palin's absence of intellectual curiosity has been exposed in the harsh reality of the interview process with even a traditionally gentle interviewer such as Katie Couric, someone never referred to as a media "pit bull", the one area where Palin could seemingly benefit is that in which positive national polling arose after her surprise selection by McCain to be his running mate
...Just ask me...
She's going to use her charm and "folksiness" to claw her way out of any tough questions the moderator or Biden will throw her way. I wish we could've had a better representative for women as VP-elect than her. They even cut the time allotted for the candidates to directly address each other from the usual 5 minutes to 2! Let's just give her the job, instead of making her work for it. We wouldn't want her to break a nail. *sigh*
Yep, so far she's doing well in the debate, and Biden is as well. He's taking a more low-key approach, and now that McCain's people have let her off the leash, she's acting more like the the Governor of Alaska than the bumbling VP candidate protrayed in the last few interviews she's done. But I'm going to bed. I'll read all about it tomorrow.
She gutted him from sternum to crotch.
In this red state, half of the accounts I visited this week (9) had the frames and were selling the heck out of them.

I thought Biden decimated her by letting her continue to spout fear inducing proven lies about Obama's plans.Showed all she was was a parrot.

Just wishful thinking, perhaps.
I love the smell of change in the morning!
You need to remove your republinders:
From here.Random and non-random polls for the vice presidential debate declare Biden the winner over Palin in the vice-presidential debate.
Non-random (unscientific) polls on AOL and MSNBC web sites show Biden winning 48 to 45 and 78.6 to 18.9 respectively.
Randomly selected subjects on three other polls also show Biden winning:
CNN/Opinion Research Biden 51 Palin 36
CBS Biden 46 Palin 21
Fox Biden 61 Palin 39
In the CBS poll, of the uncommitted voters, 18% now say they will vote Obama/Biden, 10% now say McCain/Palin.
I like this, from the same artical:
Post-debate reaction seemed to agree that Governor Palin gave a good account of herself in being able to deliver prepared answers, though often not responsive to the question at hand.
...Just ask me...
That's ridiculous. :)
Biden clearly had a far greater command of the issues and Palin could not provide a single direct answer and none of her replies had anything of substance.
I will say she was well-coached for this debate format (the short answers and no time for follow-ups server her very well) and she did exceed expectations. She also was somewhat better in 'style' by directing her responses to the camera unlike Biden who went back and forth between the camera and moderator. However one thing that is clear is that she still has not demonstrated any understanding of National and International policy and issues. But I'm sure she 'redeemed' herself for the people that were already inclined toward her extreme right-wing politics to begin with. :)

She was suppose to FAIL big time. She didn't and held her ground against a 20 year veteran who lied over and over again. She wasn't suppose to be in the game.
The end game is how many did she sway. Joe (the gaffer) Biden has added nothing to the Obama ticket. Palin has added plenty of spark to the McCain ticket despite the media.
You have polls, I have polls. The final poll will be how many undecided voters changed their minds.
My bet is the numbers will move upward for McCain shortly. Maybe not, he has run a terrible campaign. But last night helped and even the most rabid Obama supporters are acknowledging, she did pretty good job, making a lot of them choke on their words.
Where are all the calls for hearings on this bailout mess? Why are the Fannie and Freddie heads not being called to Washington in front of the Senate and House to explain? They called the auto makers to Washington didn't they ? Its clearly because the Dem's know full well that they are smack dab in the middle of it under the guise of "affordable housing for the poor" ( you just can't make, even interest only, payments on a $500,000 house if your making starting opticians pay) Check the video on Maxine and Barney praising the performance of these two government support institutions. Follow the money and you find not surprisingly, Obama, Clinton, Franks and company as the largest recipients of campaign contributions from Fanny and Freddy.Whooa!! big surprise!!!!!
Wonderful , now California wants a 7 Billion dollar bailout!! Let the line begin for everyone and everybody, wanting a handout from the government at taxpayer expense which will only get longer if Obama is elected. Miles and miles longer.Bend over if that happens, you are fixing to get the change you wanted in spades. His administrative policies will make the financial bailouts look like pocket change.
If the house has any sense they will say no to this pork laden bill passed by the senate. (Tax credits for the makers of wooden arrows for children! What does that have to do with wall street?) And yes Bush's bill was loaded with pork too including a 20% gift to ACORN. A fine organization, with the exception that they have been caught repeatedly engaged in massive voter fraud in Oregon and elsewhere.
Extreme Right Wing? Last time I checked McCain is head of the ticket, not Palin (yet) Billary does not have a prayer for 2012. It took a Alaskan wooden stake through the heart to kill that duo finally. Thanks Sara.
Obama is a socialist at best and a Marxist at worse. No democratic ticket has ever been this extreme in the history of the democratic party. (Please someone notify gaff guy who was president during the great depression and that TV hadn't been invented yet! - you might also request he stop asking the handicapped in wheelchairs to "Please stand up Chuck") Obama's savior delusion must really be rubbing off since he's trying to heal the lame.
You smell something? I smell something too. I smell another massive optiboard meltdown, when this perceived savior, like the previous perceived saviors, (Gore and Kerry) comes up short, for the third consecutive election.

The bottom line is that she exhibited absolutely no understanding of the major issues of the day or even an ability to think her way through complex issues. You like that in a potential President. I don't. Therein lies the difference.
And if Obama does lose this, I have no doubt at all it will be due to residual racism in this country among a small but potentially decisive part of the population.
I do agree with you on the bailout. It's a travesty. The bill they passed today was substantially worse than the one they rejected on Monday. However it's clear that McCain, Bush and a significant part of the Republican party are all Socialists now. The only real difference is that they believe in the type of Socialism that bails out Wall Street and the rich, instead of the kind that actually helps the majority of people.
Socialize the risks and privatize the rewards. That's the Bush Legacy.

I don't see ANY rabid Obama supporters choking. <peers around> Nope!

Why isn't McCain calling for hearings, etc? Because he's glad this happened now instead of after he would have invested all our Social Security in Wall Street

Meanwhile, if you were a Big Business, you'll get in line if McCaingets elected. And you know what? You would get it.

Just be prepared to eat some crow later. The country has just plain had it with the extreme right-wing- most- consevative-ever idiots currently in control. They blew their chance when they gained control of the Senate with no checks and balances and proceeded to ram us, liberties and all.

We will NEVER hear the end of that same mantra if Obama is elected. No matter what the issue "you are racist if you disagree with him." In fact, already - if you disagree with him - he will have you tossed in jail.

Yep I totally agree on that. It was the perfect storm of political incest. Lame duck President presents Wall street bail out bill loaded with pork and earmarks to an opposing party's majority congress, most of whom who are up for re-election. The response is to draft a slightly better pork laden bill a bill in the Senate and a end up with terrible monstrosity of a bill from the house. Throw in two presidential candidates jockeying for points and positions. What do you get? Exactly that kind of legislation. Only this one was for $700 B.
At least we saw eye to eye on something once. Maybe in the future you & I will find a little bit more we can agree on. Ya just never know. :D

Don't bet on it. It's like they never learn. Lose and election and move further left. That's the democratic party legacy.

To clarify what I said:
I stand by that. Polls have already shown a significant number of Whites will not support a Black President. And sadly I know several people like that personally. I know that it's not 'polite' to state the obvious, but this is the truth.I have no doubt at all it will be due to residual racism in this country among a small but potentially decisive part of the population.
On the other side I'm sure some Blacks are voting for Obama because of his race, but since they already vote overwhelmingly Democratic anyway the extra votes will be far dwarfed by the Anti-Black vote.
Oh and the 'Marxist' comment is laughable. You either have no understanding of what you are talking about, or you figure it's a slur you can get away with. Either way that comment says a lot more about you than it does about Senator Obama. :)
One thing is for certain no matter which candidate wins. The damage that 8 years of Bush have done to this country is so extensive that the next President has almost no hope of righting this ship over the next 4 years. I really feel that the end of America as we know it is dangerously close. I wish it weren't and I hope I'm wrong - for the sake of my Children and Grandchildren.

Take this short test and choose which quotes you most agree with. It should be interesting to see how it turns out if everyone is honest.
I'll start. I was suprised to find I agreed with McCain 11 out of 13 times.
Be brave, its only ABC News.
A lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on mine!
I was with Barak all the way!
Me too but I was surprised at how close it was. I probably shouldn't have been because during the campaign , candidates will say anything!

What McCain says now does not come close to matching with his legislative record of 26 years. If we could rely on what candidates said, then life would be much simpler.

Salon.com just came across with this mostly (somewhat) related article. http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason...rce=newsletter
And this one:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lincol..._b_131832.html
That pretty much sums up what I saw. If you have a chance, look for her answer to the VP question. Clearly her handlers had not prepared her for that one so her answer consisted of gibberish and a clear lack of understanding of the Constitution. When she could ignore the question and respond with her pre-planted sound bites, she seemed in control of herself, if not the issue or facts. Luckily it does appear that most people saw through this. Maybe there is hope after all. :)The first cut of analysis after the election saw pundits of all stripes claiming that Palin had exceeded expectations. This was clearly true, but tells us more about how low the expectations were rather than how good Palin was. Palin's performace was erratic. On one hand, she was on message -- comfortable on camera and telegenic -- but she also clearly was not very knowledgeable on the issues, garbled in her syntax, overplayed her hand by constantly saying she was folksy and an outsider, rather than demonstrating this, and most importantly, offered Republican solutions that voters simply do not want. To the extent that she presented herself far better than she had during her interview with Katie Couric, Palin's debate was a success. However, she did not make a compelling case that she was ready to be president, or that she had the right solutions for America.
