OptiWear you DON'T want to wear!

Ok, I thought we might think of some unappealing OptiWear! Kind of a contest. The rules are, you have to make the clothing out of optical supplies... for example:

OptiThongs- Basically a lens cleaning cloth fashioned with three pieces of nylon string from a semi-rimless (Supra, for you Brits) frame. Can't imagine they'd sell very well (well, maybe in L.A. or something).

There, top THAT (and yes, I DO have too much time on my hands)!

OK. Anyone out there use one of those backside coaters that use those suction cups to hold the lenses. Now you have to use you imaginations as to what article of apparel they would be.

    Coming down the catwalk...

What about an outfit made of surface saver tape, with fining pads to cover areas not meant for public viewing?

This reminds me of a home made bikini contest I was in back in the day (read- before childbirth:p ) You couldn't use material.

How about lens blanks tinted dark enough so as not to be see thru and then drilled and hooked together with nylon monofilament. Less endowed people such as myself would need two for the top ( one over each you know what) and then the bottoms out of that styrofoamy stuff you wrap the jobs in when they leave the lab-you could probably tint it to match!!:D

Sola once ran an advertising campaign here a couple of years ago, in which the photo was of a lovely young lady walking down a street somewhere in Asia, wearing nothing but a dress made of lenses!

The trouble was that the photo was taken from behind, and the nether regions were air brushed!

But I tell you what, the look on the peoples faces in the front of the photo had to be seen to be believed.

Sola actually made a screen saver of this photo shoot.

    Steve,

Could I have remembered seeing that dress at a show? Maybe Expo?

Actually I do think it was at one of the Optical shows, but not in the U.S. If I remember correctly the models were from South America and I think they wore those at a show down there.

I don't think you can make that statement without providing a link to the actual screensaver, Steve! Of course, considering the "material" of the dress, perhaps this should be an Ophthalmic Optics post...

"With an index of refraction of 1.586 in a size 3 dress, what dimensions will a model appear to have if her actual dimensions are..."

I think if Brooks & Borish wrote an optical text with questions like that, Opticians would be more likely to learn their formulas... :D

So, is there a link to this screen saver?

    Pete

PS- How about an outfit made entirely of roughing pads? You'd be like a giant cat tongue!

That would be perfect! Plus lenses for the bits you wanted to enhance, minus lenses for the bits you wanted to decrease. And all this time, we've been making glasses out of the stuff! Doh!

Nothing very revealing - sorry. And even if I had I would have quickly averted my eyes! :D

    Thumbs down

:finger: Talk about things you dont want to wear. Back in the 70,s at one of the SEDO shows in Atlanta,GA., there was some doc there trying to sell a new type of spectacle, which was completely rimless, and the temples were made of the monofiliment and was hung around your ear. It was kind of like one long piece of monofiliment and this one piece of mono was the temple, held the nose pads and held the lenses. Crazy part was it actually worked on the guy who was wearing it, but i dont remember anyone buying it.
