I got my first pair of glasses as a kid in 1993. We ordered glasses with added UV protection. A couple years later, I realized that freckles had been developing all around my eyes, but not elsewhere on my face. The damage was suspiciously where sunlight would pass through the lenses of my glasses. Instead of being protected from UV radiation, my glasses seemed to amplify the problem. But I convinced myself this couldn't possibly be true.
I now work for an OD who has told me about LensCrafters' reputation. On this board, I see the company referred to as evil. Then one post mentioned in passing that they were encouraged by LensCrafters management to sell more A/R coating but not actually order it.
Would LensCrafters really skip out on UV protection for a kid's glasses? And could glasses actually magnify the problem of UV radiation without it?
(I've not mentioned this at work so as not to seem a paranoid nutjob.)
Thanks
