So...
Longterm client in his 30's constantly complaing that his glasses don't let him see well.
First came in years ago with another Dr.'s (OMD) Rx:
R +3.00 -3.25 x 15
L +4.00 -6.75 x 176
First made aspheric poly 9 years ago.
Then optician (me) tweaked (axis) Rx 5 years ago in Auto II FF SV.
REVELATION!
Next, OD Rx from outside (on referral):
R +2.75 -4.50 x 10
L +4.25 -8.00 x 174
Again, made FF SV (IOT) and with new Rx...REVELATION!
Fast forward to Dec 2013: Now complaining glasses lost their acuity mojo shortly after the last pair made Dec 2010.
Ordered new pair to use flex dollars from 2013. I suggested he see my new, super talented In-house OD for a refraction.
New Rx:
R +2.75 -4.75 x 12
L +4.75 -9.25 x 176
Above Rx delivers 20/20 for each eye....look at the cyl OS!!
No K-cone. No corneal dystrophy. Just plain ol' cyl.
Now..every FF supplier I approach sayd "-9.25 cyl...can't do. Calcs ok, but beyond generator capability."
I decide to try Scott Balestreri of BAD "****" Optical. Several emails ensure. He has some satellite labs that he thinks can FF this...or we'll have to go back to traditional grind.
I have him pre-calc the job: panto = 6 and wrap = 5, and I review all for weird compensations. (I've found that high cyl wearers often prefer Refracted cyl as compared to compensated cyl. Go figure...I can't)
I'm spec'ing 4 or 5 base, 1.60 index.
Comes back : can only be done 1.67 and 4 base. Will be FF.
Rec'd lenses today, after approx 2 weeks.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JOB! I edge in-house, and it is SMACK DAB on REFRACTED AXIS (Compensated axis only 1 degree different...go figure).
Pictures say it all:
Thank you for a job well done, Scott!
