My understanding is that the discount plans will be gone within 2 years anyway.

I'm guessing VSP goes retail in a noticeable way. Who cares? Nobody is going to buy your plans in five years, anyway, 1320.
Boycott all possible essilor products

I STRONGLY suggest you call EM and ask questions! hint: be careful when looking for the "provider manual" not to go to the old one, you must go to the updated model.. link below
http://www.eyemedinfocus.com/the-bas...usiness-model/
This is what I have come to understand after speaking with the NEW "Provider Manual" specialist today 8/23. First off, all the E contracted labs have the same pricing for the same products. The "specialist" stated that you can (perhaps) negotiate with the labs for better pricing but EM will not negotiate for you/us to get the best pricing for the product. You are on your own for that. YOU WILL PAY FOR EVERY LENS you order including services like edging and tinting. These fees are clearly listed on the "Lens and options charge back schedule" ( pg# 139 & 140 of the NEW business Model Provider Manual(downloadable)) Eyemed is NOT paying for ANY lenses!!! -- Providers that accept this will be responsible for all lab bills
Example: polycarb sv in a grooved rimless frame ( ..just lenses in this) -- you will pay whatever lab you contract with $xxx for that single vision polycarbonate lens, and it's probably going to be stock not RX(for that same stock lens you can get from your current distributor @ about $xxx a pair), you will then pay the "contracted" lab a "grooving fee of $xx .. you will be responsible to the lab for $xx for that job. You will collect from the patient ( depending on the plan) a $40 co-pay. So you are getting $xxx plus a dispensing (lens) fee of anywhere from $xx to $xx depending on the plan. If you have your own finishing equipment EM will pay you $x to supply and edge those lenses. ( E lab gets xx ?, I get xx ! .. not surprised!)
The look of things to come..

So sorry.. Kinda new to this :( my bad.
I am currently having the problem of not being in their network... when I call eye med to figure this out their answer is the network does not allow service at a private practice any more. They want everyone in our area to go to a Sears, Pearl Optical, etc. I tried to join the network and they refused me because I am a private practice. Is any one else coming across this?
I know this is just proving the anti insurance point but, I'm starting to rereading the eyemed manual (the link view not the downloaded one) by on on of the first links I see this:
Attachment 10275
Ok, I have to read this, I expect the normal BS about bringing more patients to the practice and stuff like that, but for the first time ever I think we have truth in advertising from an insurance company:

Shamir is an Essilor product.
Thats disappointing, its hard to keep up. Guess I will be replacing shamir with seiko.
Shamir is Shamir, the office lens is just a product of theirs, comparable to essilor computer lens (there is a difference though). Essilor is essilor. The office lens has a small area at the very top of the lens that has a small area of distance RX in it. The essilor computer lens does not.
Perfect...
Thanks for the information!
Ironic, since the ShamEr Rep was just in this week asking us to give their products a try. Now I don't have to worry about it, since I try not to feed the bEast.
The beast newly owns 100% of Transitions too. That's going to be tough not to feed... unless you *like* Sunsensors, or liferx, or just use Zeiss and can do Photofusion.
Shamir products are still quite different from Essilor's, are repped separately (and will continue to be), and are as good as they have been. However, it is true that much of those dollars now go to Essilor.
our essilor rep actually gave us a very good about 1 hour long presentation on how to maximize our profit margin with the new EyeMed changes. I have some of the helpful documents he gave us if anyone would like them e-mailed to them i would be more than happy to do it. It's really not so bad, as long as you're already using essilor products. We were considering a move to Hoya before this happened, but unfortunately we just have too many exams that are eyemed. our business is in a VERY optically over populated area and relies heavily on the patients insurance brings in. if we didnt take it, our entire patient base would probably be medicaid and then it would be next to impossible to keep my department going. I hate feeding the monsters too, but sometimes its just not possible not to!

I'm curious as to why I received the fifty page pdf with some plan details only yesterday when it's clear so many of you received it months ago. I got something in the mail on Tuesday (October 1st) telling me I would get the provider manual within the next week and I would have until the 18th to send in the signed contract. I got an email yesterday with the previously mentioned fifty page document with some of the plan details but with no mention of my having to get my lenses from an Essilor lab.
It seems as though they're trying to get me to agree to their terms without much time to read them (I haven't received the 164 page document yet -- today is the 5th). Gosh, I wonder why?
