Glad you are feeling OK, Leo!! Remember, an apple a day keeps the doctor away! (or was that an onion a day keeps the dentist away??) Either way, take good care of yourself, we're thinking about you!

    Update July 21st

Looks like all the doctors are signing me out today.. Lets hope I can stay home for good this time.
My complication turned out to be a PLEURAL EFFUSION. This is a buildup of fluid in the chest cavity around the lung as a result of the cardiac surgury. My heart is doing great, but the build up of 1.5 litres of fluid was crushing my left lung. This fluid was removed wednesday. Thursday i had a lot of pain, but my lung was expanded. Each day since I get an xray every morning and they have all showed a clean cavity and my lungs are getting more powerful every day.
Last night I couldnt sleep well in anticipation of gettiing out of here and finding some really good food!!! I walked the perimeter of the hospital floor for hours last night. No Pain, No Oxygen. It tires me out but I know I am on my way to a 100% recovery.

I especially want to thank my old optiboard friends and VSI customers who have been filling my mailbox, email box, and social media with well wishes. It is overwhelmiing to say the least. I will be spending the next week catching up on each message personally, and I expect to be back in the office full time in a matter of days.

    Thank You Everyone!!!!

    Wish you all the best................................

Wish you all the best, ..................as my cardiologist said, every day it gets better and it did, only at a snails pace.

So take it easy and do not strain your body to much, it might become a rebel and get back at you. I am nearly back to perfect at about 95%.

    Leo,

Did they use new parts on you, or just recondition the old ones? What kind of warranty did they give you?

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery!

    Feeling pretty good today....

I came back to the office part time last week, and I am now officially back full time. Luckily my job has me in front of a computer and talking on the phone since I cant do any heavy lifting. I don't know what I would do if I were a brick layer or something physical. I would have been out 8-12 weeks!!! I'm doing pretty good getting back to work in only 4 weeks.

My heart and lungs are functioning great, and I feel great inside. Unfortunately, I still feel like I had a power saw go through my chest. The bone pain can still be unbearable at times. They say that takes time, but it is really frustrating and depressing. Sometimes I feel like I will never be back to normal. I am sure there are also some drug side effects at play here. I take 10 different pills for now. I get chills, and sometimes I start sweating profusely for no apparent reason.

Overall, all my doctors say I am doing great. I even rode my motorcycle to work today for the first time!!! I am anticipating that I am going to be 100% and even feeling better and stronger than before in about 4-8 weeks. Its only been just over 4 weeks since the surgery.

Again, thank you so much for all the get well wishes, card, letters, fruit baskets etc...etc... Its been very overwhelming to say the least. Im so happy to have such great family, friends, colleagues and customers. You guys rock!!!

Leo............As this was your last news a few months ago, and OptiBoarders tend to let a thread dye off after a few post's, I just feel that we should come back and ask how you your recuperation is progressing.

Having gone through the same hard time after my own same surgery and still working at it after 2 years, I hope that by now you are over the worst by now. Just keep working at it.

    Hi Chris,

I can say that you were definately correct in your posts on this thread. It has been about 15 weeks since the surgery. I have good days and bad days. Sometimes, I have great days and I actually forget that I am still healing. For example, yesterday... I tried to move a 200lb pallet jack!!! That was a mistake. I immediately felt the pressure on my sternum and almost dropped to my knees.
The bad days are really hard to explain. I get chills... cold hands, knees and feet. clammy skin, and sweats.... I never had these symptoms before the surgery. It also causes me to get depressed.

All I can say is.... Its been a wild ride!!! The good days are coming more often, so I think I am doing well. I just had my first echocardiogram and are waiting on the results at my next appointment. I guess it looked good or they would have called me.

    Thanks for the thoughts!

I had CABG X 4 in 1996 and I would suggest that you refrain from lifting anything heavy for the first few months, particularly anything using the upper body. I found myself able to resume all normal activities about four months post-op. Today, 16 years later I enjoy excellent health mainly due, I believe, to monitoring my diet and getting a moderate amount of daily exercise.

At the time of my surgery my cardiologist stated that I was a lucky person. I was to be given a new lease on life and this has proven to be the case.

    Hi Leo,

Just about a month over a year since you went through one of the nastiest repair jobs the human body can endure, but you also get better if you are patient and dont push it. We all hope you doing well recuperating.................and take your time.

    Chris, 3 1/2 years since.
