????????????
Mmm now just what has Pete done...
Won the lottery...
John,
Without wanting to debate the relative merits of various religions I would make the following comparison. Its sort of like being an Anglican in a Roman church service.(Which I have been)You're not exactly sure of whats going on. I decided to do what I do in situations like that......Follow the leader!!
CONGRATULATIONS PETE!

Congrats Pete,
Has he been called up to the US national Squad? Is he the father of a new baby? Is it your birthday?
My Guess: He has been miraculously delivered from his Anglophilia.;) ;) ;)
Way to go Pete, Now that you are making the Big $ .....
is the beer on you?
I know, too, Steve! He informed me today. It is certainly well deserved!
Way to Go Pete!

If it's the same thing he spoke to me about, then great!!!
Congrats Pete.

Come on Pete spill the beans or are we on the end of a yankie june fool joke here..:hammer: :finger:
I think this means that Pete will have to file a disclaimer every time he posts something about some optical products!
John,...no, that was in his "other" field of study!

I didn't want to post anything until after I had notified my present employers (who were very gracious and wished me good fortune), but yes- from now on I will have to preface any comment I make concerning ophthalmic lenses with the statement:
I work for Essilor of America!
:D :D :D
Thanks for all the congrats, and thanks to all of you who have encouraged me along the way! After 12 years of private practice, it will be a big adjustment to work for such a large corporation. Fortunately, the particular job I'll be doing is right up my alley and I just can't wait to get started (my job title will be "Development Manager," and I'll get to work with new Essilor/Varilux products).
So, while I may still make the occasional comment about my disdain for Trivex, I'll have to admit a certain bias in the future!
;)
Now about Anglicans, Catholics, etc... :p

PS- Is this where I recommend that everyone switch to Comfort and Panamic for their presbyopic patients?

Uh, exactly what does a "Development Manager" do?
Uh, exactly what does a "Development Manager" do?
I suspect I'll find out real soon! Seriously, its a pretty neat job description. From what I gather, I'll do research and render opinions about prospective new products, write technical data (processing, fitting, etc.) on new products that make it to production, and troubleshoot problems with new products after release (if I have the opportunity to teach some classes at Essilor Academy, all the better- but they assure me I'll have as much as I can handle just performing the tasks within my job description!).
Really, if I could have custom-written a job description, it would have looked a lot like the one I got! The only downer will be that I'm sure I won't be able to talk about any of the prospective products, and I'll have to become less opinionated here on OptiBoard!
When I'm all frazzled out a couple months from now, y'all can remind me how excited I was to get started!
:)

I certainly got the impression that everyone I've met at Essilor so far has a pretty good clue! I'm sure I'll spend the first few months just "getting a clue" myself!

HEY CONGRATS PETE!!!! I am so happy for you!! I always use our Essilor lab where I am working. In fact a couple of the girls are really good "therapists" too. I was having a really bad day and I guess the girl I was talking to heard it in my voice and she made me feel a LOT better. I asked her for a job and she told me to come on!! LOL!! I am tempted but Nashville is a little too far to drive. Hey but if you need a secretary, or just some girl to answer the phone or take over the phone orders...or hey I can even make REALLY good coffee....or run errands, fax...can you tell I am unhappy with present job???? LOL!!!
Good luck Pete!!
Steph
Congrats! Pete
I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon.
Bev
Hello Mr. Pete,
I too will and already have congratulated you on this fine endeavor. I look forward to seeing you around the board trying to be restrained and not tell us what you know ;) I look forward to prying and getting the information out of you :) Actually, I beleive you will do well and wish you the best. It is well deserved and long overdue.
Take care Mr. Pete and we'll be seeing you (I'll have the lakes ablaze when you get here :)

Actually Steve... it's not a 'clue' I seek. Being a product of the 60's I'm saving my one active brain cell for retirement. So don't make me think to much will ya?
I guess this means I'll see more of Pete than in the past. Hummm, will need to consider if that's a good or bad thing.

Hey! I was JRS for a day (in New Orleans, no less!) and managed to stay out of trouble! I guess you'll be one of the people pounding knowledge into my brain in Dallas?

Does this mean he can spring us some FVS 28's in Poly?????
Does this mean he can get us another sponsored forum????
If he's on the road, does this mean we should warn the driivng public????
So many questions and so few answers.....
