    Was It Just Me...

Or did Jim McKay seem a little out of it on the opening ceremony coverage tonight? I realize he is a broadcasting legend, but did NBC maybe ask for the wrong loan?

    What did you think?

Loved the 1980 hockey team lighting the cauldron!

Confused Gosh Cindy, know what you mean

Jim ( Chreitzberg not McKay) and I kept looking at each other saying: "Oh my, he's not at all well any more"

    The end of an era?

I noticed the same thing. It's really too bad - both for him, and the fact that it detracted from the ceremonies which I thought were very well done.

Someone made the comment how well John Glenn Looked for being 80 years old....then there was a long pause of awkward silence. I think becaose they realized that Jim was also 80 and most definately not doing as well.

That's OK. The last time I saw John Glen was during the Clinton fiasco and he looked much better then. Watching the ceremony I was thinking how old he had gotten all of a sudden.

Didn't watch the opening ceremonies, but McKay looked okay talking with Bob Costas tonight...

Deb and I are watching the mogul competitions (US silver, yeah!), and noting that almost every competitor has had between 3 and 8 knee surgeries- well duh! Just looking at the event makes my knees ache!

    And speaking of Bob Costas......

we were cracking up at his obvious chagrin at the Cirque de Solei type entertainment at the medal ceremony. What's with this medals plaza? The tickets to watch the medal ceremonies with this fancy entertainment are second only to the opening and closing ceremonies in price due to all the fancy hoopla. Shouldn't the people who supported that sport and the athletes by paying to attend the competition get to see the medals awarded? And instead of high priced acrobatics, shouldn't the medal ceremony be about the winning athletes?

I agree! I can't imagine paying the hundreds of dollars per event! Did you hear during the opening ceremonies that the performers had to purchase tickets to the opening ceremonies at 300-800 dollars per ticket! They did get to keep their costumes, though!

Guess that is the price we pay for the spectacle of the Olympics!

I'll have to admit I haven't watched that many Olympic events, but this year's opening ceremony was the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a while. I kept thinking "Just light the frickin' cauldron will ya!".
