    What album should everyone have?

Hey Gang! I'm working on my iPod and I was thinking about what albums I couldn't live without. And I was just wondering if there were any albums out there that you thought I, or the rest of us, should have? So, here is my list in no particular order

    1. Rumors-Fleetwood Mac
    2. White Album- Beatles
    3. No Fences- Garth Brooks
    4. And Justice for All- Metallica
    5. Drunkin Lullabies- Flogging Molly
    6. Rock N Roll Jesus- Kid Rock
    7. Second Helping- Lynyrd Skynyrd
    8. Untitled- Led Zeppelin (aka IV) but really, any Zeppelin album is a must have
    9. The Wall-Pink Floyd
    10. The Complete Recordings of Robert Johnson

    Well thats quite a variety!!!

    Way to many to list!!!
I would lean toward Physical Graffiti for the Zeppelin.

So does Valium and Jack Daniels, but they shouldn't be used at work either.

The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time is the cover story of a special issue of Rolling Stone magazine published in November 2003. The list was based on the votes of 273 rock musicians, critics and industry figures, each of whom submitted a weighted list of 50 albums.

My list (with RS rating in parentheses)

    1. Forever Changes - Love (#40)
    - Easily the best of the 'psychedelic' albums and one of the most unknown. Love would have been one of best known bands of the 60s had it not been for Arthur Lee's aversion to travel. Because of this they never toured and rarely left LA.

By the way, the Rolling Srtones 'She's Like a Ranbow' is almost a direct rip-off of Love's 'She omes in Color's which is a song on another album. If you are interested in Love then buy the 'Love Story' anthology which includes all of 'Forever Changes' and the rest of their best songs.

    2. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme - Simon & Garfunkel (#201)
    - May not even be the best S&G album but it was the first one I ever bought and has a lot of sentimental value to me.

    3. Who's Next - The Who (#28)
    - The album still blows me away every time I listen to it. Roger Daltrey's infamous scream on 'Baba O'Riley' still gives me goosebumps.

    4. Revolver - The Beatles (#3)
    - Sgt Pepper's (#1) may be technically and artistically the best album ever, but for playability I prefer Revolver. A close second is Rubber Soul which was the first album that saw the Beatles leave behind the the 2 and-a-half minute top 40 formula that had server them so well. Revolver completd the transition that ensured Beatlies influence for a long time to come.

    5. Moondance - Van Morrison (#65)
    - I almost would go with Van Morrision's Greatest Hits and I might change on a day-to-day basis. Moondance has some of the finest songs ever written and only suffers from two mediocre songs that seem to have been added as filler.

    6. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac (#25)
    - Great band made up of very divergent and personalities. This album is full of great songs.

    7. Tea for the Tillerman - Cat Stevens (#206)
    - I always liked Cat Stevens and wonder what would have happened to him as an artist if he had not found religion.

    8. Bellybutton - Jellyfish (not rated)
    - I'm sure no one has ever heard of this band but they are my favorite from the 90s. They only made two ablums but both of them are full or wonderful songs. This one is slight better than their 'Spilt Milk' album.

    9. Kinks Kronikles - The Kinks (#231)
    - The Kinks are my all-time favorite band and it's not easy to choose just one album. But this two CD set includes many of their best work from 1966-1970 when they were unofficially 'banned' from performing in the US. This allowed Ray Davies to bypass the 'psychedlic' phase that seemed obligatory for everyone else and instead concentrate on the small issues of life that turn out to have some of the biggest impact. To quote Rolling Stone:

Covering the years 1966 to 1970, this double-disc set anthologizes the second act in the Kinks' venerable career. Observational narratives such as "Waterloo Sunset" reveal Ray Davies to be a master miniaturist. "That's what I write about," Davies remarked, "the immense smallness of life."
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/sto...aterloo_sunset #42 of best songs ever.

    10. Bonzo Dog Band Cornology (not rated)
    - Okay, I'm going to cheat with this one. This is actually a compilation of all 5 Bonzo Dog albums with some extras from solo efforts. It's hard to describe Bonzo but the best way to imagine their music is by combining Spike Jones with Monty Python.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/...band/biography

At any given time one of the following albums could make the top 10 list depending on my mood:

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks (#16) - Some of Dylan's best songs marred slightly by a mediocre backup band
Louis Armstrong - Ken Burns Jazz (The Definitive Collection)
    Beatles - Abbey Road (#14)
Elton John - Elton John (#468)
Bruce Sprinsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ (#379)
    Beatles - Rubber Soul (#10)
Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (#95)
    Rolling Stones - Aftermath (#108)
    Beatles - 'White' Album (#5)
    Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan (#4)
Younger Than Yesterday - The Byrds (#124)
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd (#43)
At Fillmore East, The Allman Brothers (#49)
Sail Away - Randy Newman (#321)
A Night at the Opera, Queen (#230)
    Ophelia - Natalie Merchant
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
Hotel California - The Eagles (#37)
    No Dice - Badfinger
Electric Ladyland - The Jimi Hendrix Experience (#54)
Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin (#66)
    Disreali Gears - Cream (#112)
    Aja - Steely Dan (#145)
Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane (#146)
The Doors - The Doors (#42)
    Graceland - Paul Simon (#81)
Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones (#57)
Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival (#95)
    Blue - Joni Mitchell (#30)
    Tommy - The Who (#96)
Deja Vu - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (#148)
Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart (#172)
