    Design A Frame

    Good Afternoon OptiBoard Members:

We are doing some new things for 2009 and an idea that i wanted to toss out to optiboard members was a contest to design a frame. I was thinking of having members design their own frame, and then all of us vote on the favorite frame and then i will actually take this frame through the stages of production and launch it to the industry.

With the optician/new frame designer/and Optiboard getting a royalty on each frame.

Would any members be interested in participating in this type of program?

    Thanks
    Brian

I'm in what do you need? Are their any parameters you would like us to stay within? Certain size, color, material, male, female, childrens, unistyle? More details, please.

    now now

Fezz i didnt think you would have the time, i mean between driving your race cars, flying your private jets, and all the woman. :)

I am just trying to have a little fun with a new contest. As you all get bombarded with product all the time, and i am sure you all have ideas on much better frames than some of us make up and sell to you.

I dont think anyone has ever done anything like it before either, which makes it even cooler that it is started here!

And this will not be for spring 09, it will be for later in the year.

In all seriousness what are the parameters we need to stay within? What format do you want design ideas submitted in?

I have a two fold program in the works:

    1) some people are better at free hand and would like to draw their ideas on paper and scan/email them to me that would be great.

    2) I am in the development stage of a website that will allow you to take front, temples, colors, designs (basically all the parts of a frame) and drag and drop them on to a frame to build whatever you want. Kind of like the t-shirt websites. This is my preferred method because it will be easier to show everyone.

My sincere goal is the following:
Get real ideas from real opticians and have them voted on, basically creating a frame line for ECPs designed by ECPs. I would like to build a collection out of this idea.

so i am truly looking for opinions as to whether people think it is a good idea or just a waste of time, i am already building the website so i at least believe in myself a little bit :)

I am trying to stay on topic here. This is a site about eyeballing things. I think opticians should be remarkably good at this.

Perhaps you could incorporate the same fundamental flash design as part of the frame part creation?

I'm glad to use your website to do this (my freehand drawing is pretty bad and I don't have CAD software :o). Please let us know when it's up and running.

So, Fezz: when does the new FezzJohns frame line launch?:D:D:cheers:

Now I get it! You want people to designs frames for you so, you don't have to pay to have them designed! Brilliant!

yes your right cme4specs you caught me red handed. Actually i am not to pigish to say i can always use advice on new frame designs. However i have walls of frames in our office that we use to design our collections.

This is about nothing more than having some fun. Everyone buy these expensive brands and slaps them on a temple, well i thought it would mean a whole lot more in this fashion.

Maybe it will work, maybe it wont but none the less it will be fun.

I have been around for a long time like a lot of you, and just dreamt the idea up several months ago.

To a previous question no there are no rules against certain people not being able to participate all are welcome and the more the better!
