    Arrow Visual issue totally stumped

    I have a patient +0.25 ou sphere with a 2.25 add.
    Semi rimless poly transition grey.

    first progressive, first glasses.
    loves the progressive

    How ever.

The patient came back with a visual issue.
When he looks out at mostly lights he sees the light source then he sees a reflection of the light a few milimeters above. always above.
He sees great out of the progressives but he has the light issue. NO AR

Now myself, my other optical staff put on the glasses and we see the same phenomenon.

Looking at a row of track lights in the dispensary, looking at 2 lines of lighting both were perpendicular to each other.
This is what we saw ( ________ represents the track light o represents the light reflection)

Not sure if it is more then just an AR issue. we did look through the glasses with an AR sample over them.
Would appreciate and guidance from the wealth of knowledge here.

    Thank you
    Dan

    My opinion:

The design of a poly trans(no gender reference here) would be a layer of the trans material on the front of the lens, incorporating three(3) differences of index of refraction.

The trans material, the scratch-resistant material, and the poly. Each layer of the stack having differing thicknesses.

You have a sandwich of reflections.

    I would high-quality AR coat.

Ghosting is more common in low power RXs. If you don't want to add an AR, upping the base curve will help. A script like that is usually on a 4, but if you put it on a 6, it should help alleviate the issue.

Almost forgot! I've also had good luck with adding face-form.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

Allow me to postulate. Since this is semi-rimless, I assuming there is an edge polish?

First time wearer. Poly. No Ar. Low RX. Probably an engineer?

IMHO, redo them in either, CR39 or Trivex and add on an AR. The issue he is having is most likely being caused by the bad poly abbe combined with no AR is lethal in certain light conditions.

Improving the index abbe and slapping on the AR will help soak up the reflections and internal light scattering which is most likely causing his issue.

    Ok. What about prism thinning?

It is a base 4 ish, i'm not at work right now so i don't have my exact notes. I was wondering if that was the issue. I did adjust the frame six ways from Sunday, wrap panto no improvement.

I think i will adjust the base curve and have the opportininty with (Davisvision) to ad Avance for a small copay.

Thank you for the link big help.

I also wondering about that, wouldn't changing the base curve kind of due that on a simplistic form. It is only +.25

Changing it to a 6BC should help. 4BC is fairly flat for a +25. IOT FF likes 4BC, and generally, we do not see issues like this on our IOT lenses, even w/o AR. Zeiss FF will pick 5 or 6 BC for this RX.
Combine a steeper curve and requesting no prism thinning should help. However, I do agree that adding AR will be the best recourse.
That said, as this does not have AR, most likely it is a backside spin HC. Poly index, HC index and Trans index can create multiple refractions lending to this issue, esp. with such a flat back surface.

Try to get the lab to grind an extra 1/5 down prism thinning. People often see these on new glasses because the surfaces are so clean and near perfect. There was a thread a day or so ago. They will likely see these on their old glasses. Just not as shinny.

    Wait a tick here...

You didn't seriously just suggest making a +0.25 sph in a groove frame in CR-39 did you? Further - you realize that index of refraction at this power will have literally ZERO visible chromatic difference when compared against any other viable lens material right? This is just silliness!

The AR was the winning choice. You nailed that one spot on. Cheers!

+1, not enough lens in any available blank created that can create abbe issues on a +0.25. Poly Hate = no bueno.

How much thickness would it take?
