I am wondering how often frame inventory is done by practices. We do one once a month. We have between 600 and 650 frames and takes about 3 hours. Is this typical? Thanks

If I foolishly came out of retirement and wanted to get into asset management (inventory) I would investigate using RFID chips on my frames, lenses, cl's and anything else that I wanted to track.
We are computerized and bar coded. No need to do it that often unless you are in a high theft area or something. We do it once a year.
Corporate location I worked at did it once a quarter, about 550ish frames. Everything was barcoded, had a scanner, took about an hour or so. Now at a private practice, 2x per year, not barcoded, takes a little longer. I'd say the amount of time seems about right, but weirdly frequent if there isn't a shrinkage problem
I there a specific reason that you do inventory monthly? We do a physical inventory annually and have a goal of quarterly doing just a frame count to spot check. We use barcodes and have a scanner. I think the time it takes to do inventory seems in the ball park. I agree with the other posts that state that seems very frequent unless there is a problem with missing frames.
We carry about 600 frames and we do Inventory every three months. It takes a few hours . I think it is worth it to have a physical count to compare to the computer. We print out a physical copy monthly to skim through and make changes if we need to. Just in case a frame did not get taken out in a return or added in an order.
Everytime a frame rep comes in we do a inventory of their line(s) which keeps us pretty current since there's only 2 lines we carry that we don't have a rep, and then a full inventory at the end of the year
