Facebook was abuzz with this FDA approval yesterday I heard, I don't really go there but my office manager was telling me about it.

My OD told me about it, interesting none the less.

Saw this in Vision Monday today. Interesting.
Bwahaha! I can't wait to see them change in person though.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
Will these lenses tint edge-to-edge (making you look like you've had some really good drugs), or in an iris-sized spot like cosmetic contacts (leaving the limbus uncovered)? Will the activation be UV-dependent, and therefore non-operational when driving? What material changes will be necessary, with what effects on water content and DK? Will they be thicker by a substantial amount? Will they come in both grey and brown flavors? What about reaction times; like eyeglass lenses? Will J&J be careful to emphasize that these lenses don't replace shades for many situations? I recognize that I sound negative in the face of a new product; but is it really an advanced product, or a marketing opportunity in the world of Hubble and its inevitable copycats?
Wasn't there a Nike-branded contact about 15 years ago that did this? And didn't it flop?
I'm Andrew Hamm and I approve this message.
The Nike contacts were from B&L and came in an Amber and Orange tint color. They were dc'd quite quickly.

They were an awesome product for people involved in sports that require high contrast like baseball. My son wore these 1st on his high school spring training to Florida and reported the baseball looked like a beach ball. His batting average increase to ..500 illustrated the result. I happened to be watching a Detroit Tigers game that summer when 1 of the announcers stated that virtually the whole team was wearing theses contacts even if they had no Rx. The color was a high contrast amber with at least a partial blue blocker if I remember correctly. The reason they did not succeed financially for B+L was their decision to give away free trials before selling multi packs which were not cheap. Everyone just ordered enough free trials to get them thru baseball season and never ordered multi packs.
