Yes, you read the title correctly - but you may be disappointed.

I have an old Essilor edger, which isn't attached to the mains water supply. As a result, we use one of those square filters below the machine. Those things are expensive, and I want something more disposable to filter the lens gunk out. My awesome solution is ladies tights. They'll filter a little (prolonging the life of the 'proper' filter below, and they're cheap enough to chuck out regularly.

Has anyone ever done this? I'm sure I have seen a post or two about it on here before, but couldn't get anything on a search.

If you have done it, then is there a best thickness to use? I'm sure there's lots I don't know about ladies tights, but I'm eager to learn.
