I think all that jazz is totally overrated. You really can't get much thinner than polycarbonate, and a good roll and polish in any size frame will look amazing.
That's what I've been preaching to all of my patients for years. No need to bother with all the high index nonsense when Poly is already prefect for everyone.
Hi index is overrated. If you have a good relationship with your lab, they can make 1.0 poly on just about anything. And it's not expensive like 1.74.
In my opinion, the roll and polish looks very nice, and I've seen quite a few of the younger, college-aged patients requesting it (along with blue light protection). "Blue roll", I think, is what they're calling it, when they ask for it. Supposedly a youtube "influencer" has started this craze. But you put the two features together, and it's really cool-looking.
I just blue-rolled a -6.00 in a 56 eye angular/retro metal frame (which I think are kind of ugly, but whatever) this morning and can't wait to see how it turns out.
Point of view, Poly is the worst material ever (good for impact resistance) but ok... also 1.74 is not so perfect
A -11 in A 55 DBL 17 PD 33 have about 11,2 mm edge thickness in Poly.
.
In 1.74 have about 9mm, 1,9 glass 7,5mm
2mm less is not a revolution but often is very helpful.
My point of view
Not if it's blue-rolled, Dima.
I think Blue-Roll should be in the optiboard hall of fame thread, well done Drk.
I can't take credit for it, but thanks. Let me know how it works for you, unless you've already done a few.
Here's a pair I did in a Chopard frame. They're -8.00-ish. I don't think the roll shows very much at all.
This pair was about -14.00, but I'll admit I used a smaller frame.
Looks so good you can barely tell there is a lens in there at all.
Warning, though, it does NOT look good in high plus. I found this out the hard way.
If we can drum up enough interest from optiboarders, would you be willing to host a zoom class on your techniques? I would be very interested to learn this. This is vital information all opticians should know how to do today to attract the younger generation and show them we can do it better than Zenni and WP.
Well, that's a great idea, and like you said, we need to keep current!
I would have to ask my wholesale lab because they're the ones that told me about it and do the work: Walman.
Trolls, trolls, everywhere!
Triiiiiiiiibrid. Why is this still not a thing?
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
The straight line created by the desk does not cross the optical center in either lens (assuming the oc is in the center) yet the line is not displaced at all. How did the manage to accomplish that phenomenon.
Obviously demand for Tribrid being suppressed by the the impending domination of the eyecare field by Blue-Roll.
Tribrid is available, only in clear AFAIK. But you should be able to get any full backside FF lens made with it from some labs. I don't use it often as almost all the PALs I sell are Camber, and most of the SV is stock.
Blue-roll cured my covid
So instead of rick-roll, we have blue-roll? Amirite?
I must say, I didn't expect this sort of trolling from experienced posters (thank you for these unbelievable non-lenticular looking lenticularised lens images). There are genuine opticians trying to develop, redevelop, enhance, improve their knowledge base through this forum. I'm hoping this is some aberration.
It's just for fun. Are people not allowed to joke? Nobody meant any offense to anyone else.
