With the idea of unifying the current hodge-podge of national and provincial associations, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholder groups, the Canadian Opticians Council has finally been formed, following meetings in Winnipeg Manitoba. I dont know how many groups invited have actually joined yet, But the current Opticians Association of Canada is spearheading this movement. The OAC has been trying to bring about "labour mobility"ie allowing Opticians licences to be valid anywhere in Canada, and hopefully bring
about improved and uniform educational standards. It could be win/win for opticians and the consumer, who would benefit from better standards in training and education.
