I am just taking this poll out of curiosity. It is totally annonymous so don't be afraid to vote.

Because of the discussions on Optiboard I joined in April of this year.

Jo, I hope out of 1600+ members of optiboard, this one poll gets at least half of the members voting!

Yes, I like it here really well. Everybody is free to voice an opinion, give advice, and get to see things from other fellow profesionals point of view! I hope to continue posting and helping our fellows as often as possible!Brendan,

of the advantages of joining OAA and why you should recruit other Opticians to join.
I'll name the first advantage:
1. As a member of OAA I have pledged my support to the mission of the National organization in the advancement of my profession.

As a member I am committed to the rebuilding of the only National Association Opticians have.I am recruiting members to increase its membership base and to provide the association with the financial strength to become our collective voice politically in matters which affect our profession.
Our leadership will require this new blood as it, in turn, becomes the future leadership. It is up to those of us (myself included) that sat by and did nothing while the influence of OAA declined, to pick up the slack and get it back where it belongs.
Gerry made reference to the mission of OAA-I thought I would reprint it here.
The Opticians Association of America (OAA) is the only national organization
working on behalf of the independent Optician. OAA's mission is to promote
and expand opticianry by being the single, unified voice of America's Opticians.
In support of this mission, we are committed to promoting professional stature
through leadership, education, legislative representation, and communication.

Someone pointed out the use of the word independent to me a couple of months ago.I was surprised to see it.I believe it was a new change but I could be mistaken. A more proper word would have been Individual, and I am not sure that is/was made clear.
I would point this out to Judy Canty who is charged with the responsibility of membership. It will be difficult to appeal to all Opticians if the impression is made that it is only for owners.
You were right on target Bren- continue to heckle!

Poll edited 03/13/03
Well, I had to edit my poll. Thanks to the members of the OAA who have answered so many of my questions here on OptiBoard, I have finally submitted my membership application to join the OAA. It looks like they ran the charge through today.
Brendan, I also submitted my COA application. Thank you sir!
Been an OAA/Guild member since '87. really a great group, all should be supportive.
