If we forgot a lab, please let it know- this was a hard list to get together, because I do not think that anyone has a complete list!

Awesome, but there are some E labs showing up on it.
I know some of the 'chain' labs are still on the list, but it took so long to put together that I just now update with ELOA Lab, Zeiss Lab, Hoya lab etc.. For a complete list, you can copy, paste and delete
Omega Optical Labs
DALLAS – (October 2, 2007) – Essilor of America, Inc. (EOA) announced today it has acquired a majority stake in KBco. By acquiring KBco, a leader in the quality polarized lens segment, Essilor will expand its position in this rapidly growing market.
KBco is one of the largest polarized lens distributors in the United States supplying retail chains and eyecare professionals (ECPs) through an extensive distribution network of wholesale laboratories. KBco has a broad offering of innovative high quality polarized products. They focus on being closely connected to their customers and on maintaining high levels of customer service.
“This acquisition will allow Essilor to expand our presence in the polarized segment of the industry. It will enhance our portfolio of products to support our customer base,” said John Carrier, president Essilor of America (EOA). “KBco will continue with business as usual. We will work with Kurt Hollinger, John Olsen and their management team to leverage Essilor’s strength in product research and development, distribution, marketing, and financial resources.”
Created in 1987, KBco sells throughout North America to the optical industry. Kurt Hollinger will remain President and John Olsen as COO. The rest of the KBco’s current management team will remain in place. KBco will operate as an independent subsidiary of EOA. Customers, suppliers, and other business partners will continue to interface with KBco as they do currently.
“We believe that this acquisition will greatly benefit our customers and employees alike.” stated Kurt Hollinger, President KBco. “Through this acquisition Essilor and KBco will be able to utilize the strengths of both companies to help our customers build their businesses.”
I wonder how much longer this take over is going to go on before an anti-trust action starts against Essilor.

Thanks Curious Cat!
Sure with they were buying up old struggling independent optical retailers. But then I guess they intend to get us by attrittion after the control the wholesale market and we all owe them more than we can afford to pay.

I was hunting for that thread and couldn't find it. Here is a truely scary picture: http://www.essilor.com/en/Group/Inte...oratories.aspx
Yes, that says Essilor owns 332 labs world wide, with 190 being in North America....
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
Essilor acquires Stylemark,
a leading US distributor of non-prescription glasses
Charenton-le-Pont, France (December 14, 2011)
– FGX International, an Essilor US subsidiary, has completed the acquisition of all outstanding shares in Stylemark, one of North America’s foremost designers and distributors of non-prescription reading glasses and sunglasses.
Based in Ormond Beach, Florida, Stylemark employs approximately 340 people and generates around $140 million in annual revenue in North America. Each year, it sells more than 30 million readers and sunglasses in nearly 30,000 retail outlets, mainly in the food, mass retail, drugstore and department store segments. It boasts a large portfolio of licensed brands, including Nine West
®, Dockers®, Reebok®, Hello Kitty® and various Disney® properties.
The acquisition will enable FGXI to add new customers, consolidate the two companies' business and enter the fast-growing department store segment. The expanded business will also enhance the efficiency of its supply chain.
The Stylemark acquisition is fully aligned with the strategy launched two years ago, with the purchase of FGX International, to extend Essilor’s offering of eye health solutions, particularly in the presbyopia segment. "There are 2.4 billion people in the world who need corrective eyewear but don’t wear any," said Hubert Sagnières, Chief Executive Officer of Essilor. "By strengthening our positions in the non-prescription reading glass market, we are speeding our expansion in a fast-growing segment and giving ourselves additional means to develop a high-quality offering of affordable eyesight correction solutions for a wide range of people around the world. In addition, Stylemark’s expertise in sunglass frame distribution will enable Essilor to effectively meet growing demand for eye protection solutions."
The transaction will be financed using Essilor’s existing credit facilities. Based on current estimates, it is expected to be neutral to earnings per share in 2012 and accretive starting in 2013
We do very well with the dockers line but I always get them from a 3rd party salesman NOT Stylemark.
Wow. How is an independent going to compete with that. It cost big E about 1/8 what it cost an independent to produce similar products. On top of that, they own most decient equipment companies. Here is another link you may find helpful:

Despite Essilors size and breadth, many of the products are simply now mediocre:
The Crizal series was great 10 years ago, but it takes an enormous amount of time to get, processing is innefficient, its prone to crazing and much more durable AR's are now much less expensive. Even some of the "standard" AR's beat the Crizals in Colts testing.
the Comfort was great (in 1993) but it has not been top dog since about 1998. The Panamic was generally mediocre at best. The Physio is good but only came out when Free-form was taking off. Varilux has in general provided very inferior Free-form products and had to hire Seiko to redo the 360 series to reduce non-adapts. The DRx is their first decent lens in ages really, but its still beaten by cheaper rivals. They still don't offer a wide variety of materials, like other manufacturers.
Have any of their sales reps ever dispensed? Long gone are the Essilor reps that could actually help you solve problems or understand your patient needs. Do you really want someone who has never had to deal with a non-adapt giving you progressive advise? The new Essilor reps are mostly
cheerleaders (no offense to any of you few Essilor reps that actually have dispensing experience)
They bought Reflection Free to make Crizal. They bought Shamir to make decent free-form. They bought Transitions to make Photochromic. All in all none of even thier best products have really come from in-house except the Comfort and Physio. And the Comfort was 19 years ago!
They do not have a culture of innovation. Once they run out of companies to buy they will slowly suffocate in mediocrity because they have always depended on others to make good products. Its only a matter of time before it catches up with them.
