OptiBoard has been proudly serving the Eyecare Community since 1995.
Been running Spybot, AdAware, and SpySweeper on a regular basis (about once a week - more, if I visit unfamilar sites) and been problem free. These are run in addition to a healthy firewall & continiously updated virus definitions.
I don't know when the article you linked was written, but SpyBot usually has updated about every-other-week. The older version 1.2 has been replaced with 1.3 and 1.2 is no longer updated. that could be his reference version.
This is not exactly rocket science, but you do need to perform maintenance on your system to stay clean.

Thanks JR. That article was written today. I wasn't aware that SpyBot 1.3 was out. That explains why it hasn't been updating. Unfortunately their web site is not responding right now so I can't download the latest version. I have downloaded Ad-aware and plan to install that.
