I want to use something Alan W. said" We continue to play our fiddles while the optical version of Rome continues to burn.
I'm not saying "Chicken Little, The sky is falling." I use this in a different context than Alan did. What I mean by a mission state is every company small or large has a statement that recites it's mission. What we need as opticians is a mission state to galvanize us into one cohesive organization with one voice and one aim. So I ask again what is going to be our mission statement or don't we need it? Because what Alan said about chicken little is true in optical today "the sky might be falling"

I think you're headed in the right direction. But, then what else would a dumb kid like me say? Take a look at what Jo started in the "more on the cyberboard" thread. Please jump in. Some work is being done to reach the level of your posting. We just need to get there and your help is needed.

Maybe it is not too early for a mission statement. There is nothing saying that it can't be revised once we have ourselves together.

    Let's start with rfish777 statement:

    1) To galvanize ourselves into one cohesive organization with one voice and one aim.

The problem is not the mission, because in each state it would be different. We must have at least similar requirements to enter the field or we will never establish any common ground. You have a great idea, but a national mission statement is next to impossible to achieve. I can only hope the summit will move us in a common direction.
