    Question

What is going on with Sola and Safilo? They are joining forces to provide a new concept in eyewear = Enigma? I believe the lenses are to be polycarbonate +16 base curve, in a Safilo frame specially designed to hold the high base. Have they hit on a optical principal that will change the way we all look at optics, or are they riding the marketing train right to our wallets?

It's real. We worked with the product about 1 1/2 years ago. The lens design is such that there is very little off-axis distortion. Frames to fit a 16 B.C. aren't real common so SOLA needed to ally with a manufacturer to produce. I seriously doubt that there is any conspiracy involved...just trying to get a unique product to market.

The base curve of the lens is meant to closely match the curve of the eye, and with the design of the lens to give complete peripheral vision. At a +16 there is no way that would fit in a conventional frame, therefore the alignment with Safilo. This project has been in the works for a number of years and it is exciting to see and look through. Not a joke and it's something to take a look at. Very cool look for glasses.

Talked to the Safilo rep about Enigma a week ago. He said they made a pair up for a fellow as a test and the guy was impressed by them. Looking at the photos in the new trade magazines the frames aren't what I imagined they would be. I was picturing something like a scaled down sunglass wrap but they were actually good looking frames.

PS - LO1007, are you guys stocking Trivex yet?
