    Calling Darryl Meister:

    Darryl:

I am interested in trying SolaMax. It seems that it is designed to give a wider than normal near and intermediate. How does it compare to the SolaOne?

How does Percepta fit into the scheme of things, these days? I'm sure it's not obsolete, but, like the earlier designed VIP and XL, has it seen better days?

Am I missing any important lenses?

    Hi DRK,

Yes, SOLAMAX provides extremely large near and intermediate viewing zones. Practically speaking, SOLAMAX and SOLAOne are similar in design, though SOLAOne has less of an emphasis on near performance and a greater emphasis on distance and active vision. For instance, SOLAOne has a larger distance viewing zone and a softer periphery than SOLAMAX, with lower levels of astigmatism and image swim. Both designs have been optimized for the typical as-worn position and provide exceptional binocularity.

We still do quite well with Percepta, though we do generally position SOLAOne as the premium lens of choice now. Percepta provides more distance vision than either SOLAMAX or SOLAOne, but less near and intermediate vision. For the range of viewing tasks in which the typical presbyope is likely to engage, SOLAOne represents the best overall balance of optics. However, if you have a particular patient who engages in primarily either distance or near viewing tasks, Percepta or SOLAMAX may offer a slight edge in performance.

    Best regards,
    Darryl
