    How old is young?

Since this is just conversation, and just for fun...

Who is the oldest member of optiboard, and who is the youngest? Could we somehow get this from birthdays?

I have an account with an optician in his eighties. I like to joke with him that the youngest optician to ever polish a gas perm (me) does work for the oldest optician ever to do so.

I think Optiboard should have special titles for these people:)

Big Smile Maybe I am but I hope not......

I'm 63 and might be the oldest....at least my bones are feeling it, But there's Jim G and he may have me by a year or 2! Ian O'Connell from Corofin Co. Clare, Eire is the youngest at 16 soon to be 17 (April 15th if memory serves) He's been a member of our group since he was 14.We probably won't be hearing too much from the Ladies on this thread but as far as I know, they are all 39 or younger.

    Whipper-snapper

Harry is just a young whipper-snapper still wet behind the ears. Actually, I probably have just a few months on him. Was born in March 1940. I have been retired for two years now and don't miss any of it a bit.

I enjoy this forum as it gives me the opportunity to keep up with the happenings of a segment of the optical business. Any time that I feel the desire to come out ot retirement I just check out OptiBoard and feel an overwhelming sense of relief that I am no longer out there. Too many problems and no one individual seems to be making much money. Why, back in my day, an optical shop was a license to print money. Back in my day, any individual could open a shop and do OK.

Then what happened? MD dispensing, corporate ownership and third party payments. No wonder all the small businesses have either gone under or have to have a hired gun come in to crank out a few measly Rx's.

We used to have the Guild and some outstanding State Opticians Associations. They looked out for the independent and took on a meaningful and relavant agenda. Formal academic programs, while fewer, were of a higher standard and licensing was much more difficult.

There now, I feel much better. I am going to take my medicine and lie down for a nap.

    Peace,

    Dick

    rbaker got me......

By about 7 months- October 28th 1940! What a great time to grow up! The magic of radio which let us develop our imaginations. The joy of day long baseball games, the fear of getting called into the principal's office! etc etc. Chip knows too! Lets hear from the other codgers out there!
