    Question Finish Blocker

Need to purchase a new finish blocker. Any suggestions?

    Using:
Innovations, Vista, Step One, 6E, 4T all connected thru a Comtrol Rocketport. Have been using WECO CAD blocker with current loop card. New blocker must be oma compliant.

Considering AIT Speede Blocker Pro or Step Two. Suggestions or comments is appreciated.

There are two, and only two, finish blockers available that do not suffer from "through-power" distortion: the Weco CAD 2000 (or whatever they call it now) and the GC Step Two.

This distortion occurs in other blockers because the image of the alignment grid either passes through the lens as the lens is aligned with it, or the shadow of the alignment feature on the lens is cast onto a screen of some sort by light refracted by the power of the lens.

Either the alignment grid, or the alignment feature on the lens (the seg, fitting cross, or lensometer dots) is displaced.

The CAD avoids this problem by aligning the lens using light reflected off the lens' front surface; the Step Two avoids it by placing the screen on which the alignment feature is silhouetted directly against the back surface of the lens.

The Step One incorporates a software feature to compensate for the error - that is, the alignment mask can be drawn in a different location, based on the power of the lens (or semi-finished blank).

    Oh, and...

The only finish blockers which are OMA compliant would be the Weco Verifier and the GC Dimetrix - both being completely automatic blockers (in a different price class from the CAD & Step Two, neither of which are OMA compliant).

You could also include the Kappa, but that's a tracer/blocker.

    Is your CAD a 2000 or a 1000?

peyes, since you are using Optronics, I would say stay with them and purchase the 3B finish blocker.

This option would satisfy both the oma compliance and shanbaum's "through-power" distortion.

    Unhappy Oops...

Sorry, I forgot about that one.

I haven't had a really good look at it, but I understand that it is indeed OMA compliant.
