    Fishin' for a Formula

My lab mainly uses metal laps in 0.12D increments, but we do have the capability of cutting foam laps on the SGX. What I would like to do is be able to cut tools in the exact curves, rather than rounded off to the nearest 0.12D, when cutting foam laps. I'm sure Innovations has the capability of calculating the curves in material index vs. tool index, but I would only want to do it occasionally. Besides, the tech people at the home office don't let us tinker with the software ;-)
How would I determine the necessary base and cross curves needed for a job? I know index of refraction is a factor, but is there any formula for calculating the curves?

    Here's a simpler solution:

When you put the tray ID into the SGX, prefix it with the letters "qq", e.g., for tray "123", enter "qq123" or "QQ123". If your system has this feature turned on, Innovations will send exact curves, and instructions to cut foam laps, to the SGX.

If it's not turned on, you'll get a "job not found" response.

By the way, if you have a Lensmaker, you can do the same sort of thing by prefixing the tray ID with a dot (as in, ".123").

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try.

Greetings. Does this work on the Lensmaker using only Innovations as the program or will it work using Optifacts as well?

    Thanks

Sorry, it's an Innovations feature, not a Lensmaker feature.
