    Different AR brands!?

I am wondering if I am the only one that hardly sells the newest generation of AR coating.

We still use the 7 layers (i think) house AR coating from Nassau Lens Co and for Surfaced jobs we use Nova Lab that was recently purchased by Essilor but still using their house AR.

Does anybody has info on what is % of differnt types of AR purchased from independent distributer that includes house brand, Essilor, Hoya, Sola, Optima and other products coated with AR.

    Lenny,

Your best bet would probably to ask your lab for that info. Heck, call different labs to see if they can give you that information and do a comparison.

When it comes to AR, people are going to have their favorites. If you prefer your house brand, and it works fine, should it really matter? My preference is; for stock, Essilor's AirWear 1.0 Aspheric with Crizal (I stock these in-house). If it is custom from lab, it is now the Crizal Alize. Why, because I find the Crizal to be the most durable and reliable than any other I have used. Example; I had a patient not two days ago come back for his eye exam and new eyewear. His last visit was 2yrs 1mo. ago. His lenses had very limited, very minor, hairline scratches. He is a testimonial to my preference.

Now that I think of it, maybe if you E-mail Pete Hanlin, seeing as he is basically the horses mouth on this subject, he could have some statistical data for you.
Pete, I mean no foul by previous phrase. It is basically coined frome the origonal "Straight from the horses mouth," (author and origin unkown).

Hope this was and glad to be of service to a fellow Optician.

    I agree with Cowboy.

We tend to stick to Crizal or Great Lakes but we use other brands from time to time. Proprietary AR coating on various progressives and high index lenses dictates using the coating the lens manufacturer's will apply in some cases. We have had some problems with house brands and name brand coatings in the past but as soon as we see consistent problems we stop using the coatings.

Do what works for you and your customer.
