    $$$$$

Trying to get some verification of some info. My sources say the average pair of eyewear (not including an exam) at retail in the independent sector is $240. Sound good, bad, indifferent? Thanks for your help.

That number could be right, but it's high if you're talking about glasses with single vision lenses and it's low if you're talking about glasses with progressive lenses.

Because mulifocals are so much more expensive than single vision, a more useful statistic would be average price for glasses with single vision lenses, and average price with progressives.

I have seen some statistics compiled by jobson pub., published in Eyecare Business, which discusses each major market, average cost of eyewear, leading frames lines, etc...I know that the mean average in my market area is $268; not 2 fer $99...and that most of the majot chains are higher than most independents...
