Carl Zeiss Optical, Inc. Introduces Clarlet® 1.67 AS
New hi-index single vision lenses available now
CHESTER, Va., January 20, 2003 – Carl Zeiss Optical, Inc. today announces the introduction of Clarlet® 1.67 AS. Clarlet 1.67 AS, the newest member of the Zeiss Clarlet family, is a single vision lens designed to provide the wearer with crisp vision. The hi-index material and aspheric surface improve the lens' cosmetic appearance by greatly decreasing its center and edge thickness. Clarlet 1.67 AS lenses are thirty-five percent thinner and thirty percent lighter than CR39.

"The new Clarlet lens was designed in a 1.67 material to meet the needs of the consumer with higher powers," said Andy Huthoefer, vice president of marketing, Carl Zeiss Optical, Inc. "The new lenses are available in both finished and semi-finished. Stock lenses can be delivered overnight."

The range for the finished Clarlet 1.67 AS stock lens is sphere +4.00 D to -8.00 D and cylinder out to -2.00 D. The minimum center thickness is 1.0 mm, with the diameter falling between 70 mm and 80 mm, depending on the power.

The range for the semi-finished Clarlet 1.67 AS lens is sphere +8.00 D to -10.00 D and cylinder out to -4.00 D. The following base curves are available: 0.50, 1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 3.50, 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 7.00 and 8.00. Depending on the base curve, the lens diameter falls between 70 mm and 80 mm.

Both finished and semi-finished Clarlet 1.67 AS lenses come standard with a double hard coating. The Zeiss Clarlet family of single vision lenses also includes Clarlet 1.5 Super ET® and Clarlet 1.6 AS Super ET®.

Also expanding is the progressive lens offering from Zeiss. During the upcoming Vision Expo East, Zeiss will introduce Gradal® Brevity. Gradal Brevity is a short corridor progressive lens designed for smaller, more fashionable frames with a minimum fitting height of 16 mm.
