I have determined this year to unload the stuff I have held onto for years now. Instead of taking it to Goodwill (I read an article that little goes to help people, most runs the stores) as I normally would, I was reading my Woman's Day Magazine (2-1-04 vol. 67, issue 4) and found an article "Don't toss It, Reuse It! 39 Tips"

I couldn't link the article as it isn't on-line yet so I thought I would take a little time and compile the list for you. It is amazing the stuff you or I would toss that would be special to someone.

Book Crossing
What is BookCrossing, you ask? It's a global book club that crosses time and space. It's a reading group that knows no geographical boundaries. Do you like free books? How about free book clubs?. Well, the books our members leave in the wild are free... but it's the act of freeing books that points to the heart of BookCrossing. Book trading has never been more exciting, more serendipitous, than with BookCrossing. Our goal, simply, is to make the whole world a library. BookCrossing is a book exchange of infinite proportion, the first and only of its kind.

Nike Reuse-A-Shoe
Through the Reuse-A-Shoe program, Nike donates football/soccer fields, playgrounds, running tracks and basketball and tennis courts in communities around the world. These resilient sports surfaces are constructed in part with granulated Nike Grind particles from shoes collected within the community. It means you have a choice: you can either support the environment or support your local landfill. That's not such a tough decision.

Habitat for Humanity
More than 50 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the United States and Canada have established ReStores, which sell quality used and surplus building materials at a fraction of retail prices. Proceeds from ReStores fund the construction of Habitat houses in the community. Habitat's most successful ReStores raise enough to build 10 or more houses per year.

Humane Society
There's a place in your community where the hungry are fed, the homeless are sheltered, and the abandoned are provided care. It's your local animal shelter, which provides comfort and care for unwanted animals.
Your shelter also offers many other services for pets and their owners—and even for people without pets. To do all this, it relies on support from people like you. Here are a few ways you can help animals, especially at your local shelter:
