    Idea Rimless Cord

Does anyone know the thickness to buy for Rimless Cord? If I am at the hardware store or buying fishing line, what thickness is the one to get. I know this may not be the same ophthalmic quality so spare me the lecture, I just want to know the thickness?

I disagree. I fix a lot of the rimless mounts that break. The hole in the frame will vary slightly between manufacturers. The most common monofilament that I use is the Trilene "Big Game" 30 lb. test. The diameter of this line is .022 ". Its a good quality line as well. For those that don't know, there is a big difference in Monofilament qualities.

Big Smile It's cheap enough, just buy an assortment

I'm a Stren man myself. I keep a few different test sizes around. Works great for frames as well as channel cat and Bass fishing ;)

    Take care.

I've used the cheap stuff for 20 some years, 20 lb test works for most. Ocassionaly you get some larger holes that need 30 lb. Works for me!

    Mono filament

Wow there is a lot of different opinions on what to use. I have always used a stren brand 17 lb. test and it seems to work for most all semi rimless frames. (by the by if you buy a plastic bug or worm, tie a piece of that same line to the bug and pull it across the room, I know you will get a rise from someone.) Ha Ha.

    Huh!?

This discussion is definetly over my head. Can anyone explain the differance to me in detail and then in practical terms?

What about the plastic piece on the other side of the mounting?

Lenny: If you mean the nylon innerliner, (Kind of I beam shaped stuff that fits in groove of eyewire part of frame) It's called innerliner and you can get about 3 ft. a pop out of Lux just for the asking.

As to the fishing line, why not just go to the tackle store, the stuff in cheap get 15, 20, 25, and 30 lb. in 100yd. spools, this is enough to fit almost any frame ever made and it will be a very long time before you run out, even if you hang Christmas balls in your window for decoration with it.

    Chip

P.S. the Stuff is highly superior to ribbon for getting underneath the chord to remove and install the chord in/out of the lens.

While you are at the tackle shop, get some 60-80 lb test for replacing stripped nosepad screws, melt the ends with a hot screwdriver. By the way I've been using the same spool of 20 lb since I opened 11 years ago, it'll probably last my entire career. I hang stuff with it too! Terry

Ive always used 0.5mm and have never had a problem, as for quality rethreads are always a sight better than 'factory fitted'.
I have 2 rolls, a clear for rethreading and a green for insertion.

    Rick

hey, CME4SPECS- That mono may be lasting you all these years, but I guarantee you that you are using a greatly weakened product. The mono goes through an aging process of rheology, this is a drying process. This causes the material to be quite a bit more brittle and the original 29% stretch (approx.) has been dramatically reduced in the 11 years you have it. Go crazy and invest $4.00 for a new spool.
