    Christmas Tree Decorations

Here's another poll. Now I want to know about the trees. Tinsel or not? Theme to decorations? Garlands or not? Homemade decorations entirely or not?

Mine are: no tinsel, red wooden bead garland and my tree is done in Santa Clauses that I have acquired over the years on my travels and shopping excursions.

I voted no garland but we always put on strung cranberries, does that count? We have a color theme--all the ornaments are silver or crystal or white and the lights are white. I am seriously thinking about forgetting the tree this year and building a poinsettia tree.

I think cranberries would count as garland. Sound like a great idea-a poinsettia tree.

Me: no tinsel, bad for my kitties to get hold of, and a hodgepodge of decorating themes. Ribbons and beads for garland. Now this year I'm in a real quandary! For the first time in about 20 years we will be away over Christmas day and I'm trying to decide whether to even do a tree! Anybody have great ideas on how to make the best impact with a very small tree? I may do that as a compromise. :p

    Laurie,

I have a small trio of trees in my foyer, that I decorate in ivory and gold with gold lights as well. Use 40 mm organza as a garland, and weave in around and then use a gold/organza bow on top of each trailing down on all sides. I also use another very thin gold wire type garland with stars and weave it around and between the branches. They are all surrounded by mounds of cotton, with stars sprinkled on it. They are spectacular, and everyone comments on them. They represent the story of the three trees, and I have a framed print with the story hanging behind the trees. Oh by the way, my brother is a florist and he likes the display.

    Try a live tree......

We're leaving for San Diego on the 26th so we wanted something that wasn't large, and easy to handle before we leave. We got a 4 ft Holly with a very manageable ball. We will put it in the garage the day we leave, and plant it when we get back a week later.I remember doing that when going to Cleveland about 32 years ago, and that tree (Colorado Blue Spruce) is about 50 ft tall today. That was 5 houses ago but I go back and see it every once in a while.

I would do a live tree. The only problem is, the only one in my house that loves a live tree more than me is my Lab, Spike!

    Enough said.
