    How would you define Marriage?

    Im working on this one:
An attempt at a lifetime committment between two individuals who care about each other in all aspects of life.
What would you add or take away?

    Big Smile marriage

The finest definition i ever heard about marriage, came from William Schaefer, a german who owned the local confectionary store in Floral Park, L.I.N.Y. where i grew up, and 60 years later is still there.
One day, down in the basement making chocolate we were talking, and i said Scheafer, is it true that marriage is a 50/50 proposition?, he hesitated , thought for a moment and said NEIN, NEIN, 60/60. truer words have never been spoken, you may have to think on this one for a moment.

Some folks in the Nawth say......

    Taxachusetts, Some folks in the South have been known to say Massatuusetts! In Massachusetts the Supreme Judicial Court does not write the law, they interpret it. 4 to 3, they interpreted the law to be that marriage, in the words of Night Train is;

"An attempt at a lifetime committment between two individuals who care about each other in all aspects of life."

The implication of today's ruling is that life partners have the rights of any citizen regardless of lifestyle, and that their choice of lifestyle should not preclude them from the financial and tax benifits enjoyed by heterosexual marriage partners.

Our Federal Constitution has guarenteed each of us equal treatment under the law. It says nothing about lifestyle choices, only that everyone is equal. I accept whatever anyones lifestyle is without making a judgement on that person. I am glad I have arrived with that view, it has taken 63 years to develop and thats a long time!

    Night All!

    how do you file?

    Keith,
In order to answer your question I require some more information. The questions I ask should give you the answer to yours. Only 3 questions.

    1. Is your wife covered under your health plan?

    2. Is your wife eligible for pension/survivor benefits under your pension/ social security plans?

    3. Do you file a joint tax return or do you file as individuals? If you file jointly, as I suspect, but do not know, there are some tax benifits you will not get if you file individually.

Why not live and let live? Maybe if we do, the gay pride parades will stop so traffic can return to normal on those days. :D ( I was once tied up in traffic for over an hour in Boston during one of those parades)

I didn't say anything about not living and let living. I was just wonderig about those benefits.

I thought when I filed jointly, my wife and I got a smaller personal exemption, than the sum of two induvidual exemptions (that's because we do).

I also thought the health care coverage was the choice of the health care provider and nothing to do with the law. Likewise with pension benefits ...but I s'pose it still applies. Social security too.

    Thanks for answering my question.

If I am not mistaken, the standard deduction was changed last year so that a married couple now gets twice that of a single person filing.

Remember - not everyone can have kids... there are couples who cant concieve a child - where do we fit in to that equation?

That quote is my own prediction of the future definition of marriage. It is basically meaningless and sacred-free.

Three elderly Italian men were discussing who they would like to sleep with if they had their choice of any woman on earth. Anton said, "I would have to say Sophia Loren. She's charming, intelligent, and oh, what a body! Vittore declared that his choice would have to be Gina Lollobrigida, with her full sensual lips, her large almond eyes, a love goddess she is! All eyes turned to Niccolo, wondering whether he would choose Gina or Sophia. Niccolo said "this a is a no brainer my friends, I would want to spend a night with Virginia Pìpelìne. Niccolo's friends were perplexed because they have never heard of her, and wanted to know if she was a new actress or celebrity. Niccolo said, "I read about her in today's newspaper, and as soon as I did, I knew right then and there that she's the woman I would choose to sleep with more than any other woman in the world. I don't have a picture of her, but I have today's paper with me." Niccolo hands the paper over to Anton and Vittore and on the front page they read...

Sad but true!! Too bad they did not define it in words the way it was intended!
