How does everybody like the 'TD2' lenses?
Does the coating hold up well?
How much additional are you charging for this?
Thanks in advance!!!

Other than using it to jack up your daily sales, we get $55.00 for TD-2, it's no big deal. I have seen them scratch just as easy as any other coating. The two year guarentee is a nice feature, but I can do that with any lens.
We have sold quite a few of the TD2, have seen it scratch, but the warranty is great and there is no hassle sending them back, just like the Crizal lenses. Crizal is fantastic, and usually when we discuss TD2, 90% of the time they will get Crizal. We charge about $40 for TD2.
We also charge $40 for TD2. I have found it to be an excellent product and we do it on most of our glasses.
We don't even offer any other S/R coating.
Geez, how do I approach this one? First, we are an authorized Essilor/Crizal/Varilux lab and recently received an award for our support. TD2 is an excellent product but, there are questions and alternatives to consider.
Virtually every plastic lens (CR-39, Spectralite, mid-(ugg)-index, 1.60, 1.66, well, you get the idea) is available with a good factory applied hardcoat on the front. All of those are supported with factory warranties, generally for at least 2 years. We will support them for life.
All plastic lenses mid-(ugg)-index and above REQUIRE a backside coating (in spite of what you may have heard). This leaves only CR-39 or Spectralite to consider for a backside hardcoat.
Inasmuch as the front of the lens typically receives the brunt of the abuse, and I've never heard of a lab/manufacturer refuse a scratched lens because the scratches were only on the back, why would you require a double side hard coat? EXCEPT WITH AN AR COATING, that is. If you do feel more comfortable backside coating as well, virtually every lab has that ability. We only charge $4.00 for a backside coat...and warranty it for life.
