    Vegas

Well Vision Expo is going to be my first trip to Vegas so...

What are some good shows to see? I already plan on seeing Blue Man Group. Which took a signifcant portion of my entertainment budget.

Any must see attractions? Also where are the best buffets for the buck?

    Ray-

stay away from the buffet at the Holiday Inn. Had great food at the Flamingo, tho it was a little pricey.

Definitely check out downtown...the light show is fantastic! Also, check out Hard Rock Casino-great displays from various rock acts.

This will be my first trip to the "Elvis Impersonator Capitol of the World" as well...

I hear the Cirque de sole (sp?) is something not to be missed. In Vegas, I believe the show is called "O."

    See you there...

I had the opportunity to see "O" while attending Vision Expo in 2000 and I have to say, it is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!

As far as things to do though, I always enjoy looking at all of the different things to see at the hotels on the strip.

The pirate show in front of Treasure Island is fun. You should try to catch it from the balcony of the Battle Bar inside the hotel.

If you like seafood..... the Rio has the best seafood buffet!! It's a little pricey but you get EVERYTHING! Shrimp, crab, lobster, tuna, mahi mahi etc... It's seafood heaven!

As far as shows, If you want to see something great at a lower price head over to the Riveara (sp?) and check at La Cage'.... great show!

Gosh... just typing that bit about the Rio makes my mouth water!

    Question Fish Circus?

Cirque du Soleil (Pete, Pete, Pete...) has three shows in Vegas, "O" at Bellagio, "Mystère" at Treasure Island, and a new one, "Zumanity" at New York New York.

None of these is cheap, so you'd better go gamble a whole bunch to win enough to see them.

I suspect there are some package deals out there that include airfare, hotel and one of these shows for an all-around more reasonable price.

My personal favorite, of course, is the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton, where you can insult the Klingons and get away with it. At least, so far.

Buccaneer Bay show at Treasure Island is closed until late October. They are up grading it to a "more sexy" show.

after the show I was so moved that I would have paid double.

Just returned home from a show at Phx Dodge Theater with Olivia Newton-John...what a fantastic, beautiful performer she is, her show was exceptional. Too bad she won't be in Vegas till a couple weeks AFTER vision expo. I wouldn't miss her if she comes through your hometown this year while she is touring.:)

I've never seen a Cirque du Soleil (thanks Shanbaum), but I understand our booking agent can arrange for me to get some tickets if I really want them. From the reviews I see here, I think I'll go for it! Which of the three shows would y'all recommend?

There's one in Columbus, OH as well (and I end up in Columbus on a more or less regular basis these days)... anyone ever been to see it?

We'll be staying at "Treasure Island," so I'm sad to hear the pirate show doesn't crank up until October (especially the "more sexy" variety).

    Thumbs up Cirque

I haven't seen either of them, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews of both "O" and "Mystère" from a number of people. I don't recall hearing from anyone who's seen both, but based on what I've heard, I'd go for "O".

"Zumanity" is brand new - I think it opens tonight. From the promotional material, it sounds like it's a bit more risqué than its siblings.

I've seen Cirque du Soleil in Montreal and in Baltimore, both fantastic, assume Columbus would be too.

In terms of stuff to do, just walking around is fun, see a lot of interesting/scary people. The helicoptor ride to the Grand Canyon is great, not for the faint of heart. DO NOT under any circumstances go to the Siegfried and Roy show. Too awful to describe.

    Varmint~

    Thanks for the tip.

I ended up getting tickets for Zumanity (also a Cirque du Soliel show) for $85. at the Expedia website. As mentioned earlier in this thread it is a little more risque than other Cirque shows (that's right...I figure now that I have tickets, I can be all personal and on a first name basis....hence the "Cirque" reference). Anyway....Zumanity....risque....18 and over show... I couldn't resist.

On a different note...I will be traveling to my favorite place in the world after going to the show....Sedona, Arizona. I can't wait.

We saw the Blue Man Group in February of this year in Vegas and they were spectacular! Great choice.
