    Ansi Z87.1-2003?

It seems the new standards are out. Is every lab required to submit lense to COLTS in order to comply with the High Impact Lenses Standard and to be certified? As I understand it all prescription safety eyewear dispensed must have a tag attached that can only be removed by the wearer?

    peyes,

Now you have two options a "basic" impact RX and a "high" impact rx (lens) ... the basic is still the same right down the line, mostly :) (3.0 center) but 100% of glass lens must be tested, plastic can be tested by samples and figured statistically., the basic is delivered with a warning label.
High impact not less than 2 mm (poly and trivex) they all must be tested and "marked" (+)..if with a trademarked it requires the trade mark and the "+"..you also are required to mark it if tinted for a special purpose or another marking for photochromics "v"...
For the "basic" you can get the warning labels from the OLA... in the basic version they have slacked off a little we used to have to "mark" every safety lens.. but the high impact addition they made it more strict..
ANY lab can do their own testing, they should have a drop ball tester anyway, and mark them up.. this was always a gray area on the labs side "what do we have to cut if using poly?" ..3.0? what? ...now they more or less clarified it and the ansi caught up with materials avaiable.. This should make it easier NOT harder for the labs to follow the rules (for once) :) ....
