Looking for least peripheral distortion with +6.00 FT lens

55 year old female. Wears RGP contact lens. Was happy with the optics of the Spectralite series of lens. Now she is into multifocal and Spectralite is no longer available. We are NOT looking for the THINEST. We are looking for a design that has better "side vision". Please share your opinion.

Spectralite was a 1.54 mid-index (possibly aspheric as well? Please correct me if I am mis-remembering that) with high 47 Abbe. Trivex will be the closest performer as far as index and Abbe, though I don't think it's available aspheric. If optics not thinness is your goal, good old reliable CR-39 is best, and available aspheric as well.

That's what I remember as well.

An RGP wearer with that RX is going to be extremely hard to please with glasses. Manage expectations.

Sola's aspheric spectralite lenses (ASL) were the only front aspheric st28 available. Put hundreds of folks into it that were wearing poly and 1.67. Steepest BC was about +7.50.

Back atoric trivex (Hoya iQ) would probably be the best substitute, but will have a slightly steeper BC than spectralite at +9.00, hence slightly more magnification, however the difference should be insignificant as long as the lens size, shape, and edge are similar to the habitual lenses.

Essilor might still make a 1.60 st28 but I don't believe it was/is aspheric. I don't know if it comes in a steep enough BC for this Rx. Don't cheat on the BCs or you'll introduce a significant amount of marginal astigmatism.

Standard st28 trivex should be ok if Hoya isn't available.

    Hope this helps,

In addition to the ST28 Hoya IQ that Robert references, consider a freeform bifocal such as IOT Endless Bifocal (round seg available in two sizes) or Shamir Duo.

Trivex is closest to Spectralite in Index and Abbe while being much lighter. Of course, CR 39 other than glass is clarity champ, if weight and thickness are of no concern.
