    1.90 resin lenses

I understand they're launching this week from essilux. 1.90 with pretty good Abbe value (38). Should really be nice for those higher powers.

    Any idea on cost?

Is it able to be drilled for rimless, etc?

Is it going to have the new Transitions??

If you look at them sideways will they shatter into a bazillion pieces?

Are they horrid yellow/brown in appearance?

Will they be available in anything other than Crizal treatments?

And to the good Doctor's point - how many critical organs will they cost?

I volunteer to test a pair if I can get them for free. My prescription was made for this.

No, my rep said the tensile strength was good for rimless, so they should not be brittle.

I expect them to be rather pricey.

I didn't hear what PALs will be available, but I suppose the XR will be involved.

I think they're going to be good.

As to color, I asked about them yellowing. She said that she expects no residual color, but they have been test marketing them in France and they actually, if anything, turn a rainbow-colored over time, from the side. I figure that would be cool...

And get this: Billy Brock will be involved! He's going to do that thing he does with inlays to prove how workable this material is.

He only used to work with Trivex, but I guess he loves this new stuff.

Sounds really good on paper. I'm assuming the speciific gravity of the material will be higher. I bet it will be super expensive. Nice Abbe value improvement over 1.67 and 1.74.

I'd like to see it added to Opticampus so we can compare edge thicknesses, etc.

I guess we could just use high index glass for the comparison?

Much better Abbe than the 1.76 lens that was announced a few months back. It has a 30 Abbe

I missed that one. 30 abbe...no thanks. This one may have been worth the wait.

Can you find anything on the specific gravity, Elvis?

Current calculator for 1.90 is based off a 1.5mm CT for minus and 1.5 ET for plus. I suppose it will depend on the tensile strength of new 1.90 resin to see if it goes down to 1.0 CT and ET. You could always just make a 0.5mm adjustment in the meantime if needed, or until it gets added to the calculator.

I haven't found anything. I didn't know 1.90 resin was coming out until your post. We don't have any direct Essilux accounts for anything. I imagine it has to be fairly dense and heavier though. I imagine it will be harder on surfacing and edging equipment.

It could be a big step forward for high order RXs.

Would love to see how much thinner it will be than 1.74.
