    Giant Octopus or Whale Blubber

Did you see this story? My question is how do they not know immediately it isn't whale blubber? I am sure we have an opti-oceanic/biology major that can answer that!

It will be a monumental find if it is the giant octopus as the last was in the late 1800's. Evidently it is quite rare.

    Cindy,

I'm with you....Seems like all that would have to be done now would be to test the tissue. Technology has improved drastically since the last supposed "find" and it shouldn't be a mystery.

Everybody have a happy and safe 4th of July.

    I'm in agreement.

First let me say that until they actually have a story they shouldn't be reporting it in the fashion it's been done in this article. The only way we will know if this is whale blubber is if this story fades away into oblivion but don't look for a story saying "it was just whale blubber."

My bet would be oblivion. Anyway I wonder if they would be intrested in doing some scientific research on the blob in my backyard? It could be the remains of a Prehistoric bird or a wet plastic Wal-Mart bag :)

    Take care.

    Hey Darris,

if it smells, then it's the prehistoric bird. But then, it may be what's in the walmart bag. Have a safe 4th.
