Just an update if anyone is interested - blood sugar test came back fine.
Had another cyclo yesterday just so I could see without specs due to migraines. Same as before. Went four hours without any correction and could see pretty much everything in distance but not near.
Today I tried a pair of +1.00 Ready Readers over the higher rx to simulate varis. Felt much better, distance sharp and reading/computer clear. Not perfect immediately obviously, but felt better all around. Going to speak to our Zeiss rep and see if she can help with lenses.

The way to do it is gradually.
Get the average cyclo reading and add a diopter overminus (use a +1.00 add) or even a diopter-and-a-half overminus (use a +1.50 add). You'll eventually adapt.
Another update for anyone interested:
I'm getting Zeiss individual varis. Sent off my frame this morning. Unfortunately I have my block study at ABDO college for two weeks as of the 20th so they are unlikely to be back before then, but I'm very excited! Hopefully it'll be an end to my issues!
We want an update ASAP!

The varifocals seem fantastic. My eyes feel less strained and I haven't had an eye-based headache in the week I've been wearing them. It's still the high rx, with a +1.00 add, but its been so much nicer on the eye than my single vision lenses. Fun fact, my eyes feel like they're further apart, which is just weird, lol.
As I said in an earlier post, I was at ABDO college for two weeks. While there I met another person on the same meds with the same problems, the only difference being that they are a hyperope not a myope.

If it's been a week without a headache if you get one now it's not from your glasses imo.
Yeah its amazing how different it feels. I don't think I realised just how much I was straining until I'm suddenly not.
Really glad to hear the new Zeiss varifocals are making such a difference for you! It's amazing how the right lenses can turn things around with vision issues. Keep us posted on how it goes long-term. Your experience is super valuable for others facing similar challenges! In addition, I'm wondering if environmental or lifestyle factors might be contributing to the patient's fluctuating vision. Changes in screen time, lighting conditions, or even variations in diet and hydration can impact visual clarity. Because I have noticed some vision changes even in myself, so now I ordered some mens glasses for -0,50.

Maybe you should go buy a light weight, semi okay looking, trial frame for when your vision changes. Then just wear trial lenses for a couple days until you can get your new Rx put in whatever frame you desire ^_^Originally Posted by Loki
If I were in your shoes I would probably wear contacts with the new Rx until I could replace the glasses. Nice thing is if you have in-house finishing at your shop it should not be too expensive to have several set of lenses.

Hold up +0.50 over your most recent glasses at distance and see how it feels.
Seconding the suggestion to use contact lenses for the required distance prescription, but perhaps with a progressive set to distance Plano, Add +1.00 worn over the contact lenses for relief from the excess minus?
You've already noted some kind of relief when using a +1.00 Add, so you could tweak the contact lens prescription as needed for distance, while retaining the same progressive. Maybe even put a touch of plus in the progressive distance or an office lens design for an indoor use second pair if that offers further relief.
