    Mirror coatings on Rx sunlenses

We've done a few flash mirror jobs with flatter base curves in sun frames. I've noticed they don't look quite as good as a mirror coating on a +6 or higher base.

    Have you noticed that?

Is it feasable to fudge the BC a little steeper for mirror cosmetics?

I haven't run into that particular situation myself, but I can see how it would affect things as mirror colors vary a lot depending upon the angle at which they are viewed. Yeah go ahead and increase the base curve a couple diopters. Especially if you're using wrap compensated designs, they can handle it.

I'm a -10 and I love the look of a mirror coat on my very flat lenses. It's like an actual mirror. Cool as hell.

The change in the color of the reflection in a mirrored lens is due both to the distance and to the relative inclination of the lens itself inside the evaporation chamber. Naturally in the case of reflections with almost no peaks (for example a white mirror) the differences will be minimal but for more "monochromatic" colors such as blue, green or red, the effect will be remarkable. for example in the case of a red mirrored lens in the center, the edges will have a large yellow component (less thickness of the mirror, curve that moves to the left) the result will be orange/gold In the drawing you see the position of the oxide evaporator in relation to the lens and a graph of how the reflection varies (I inserted that of an AR because I didn't have a ready example for the mirrors
