I first met Darryl when I was the Technical Service Manager for SOLA Optical in the early 90s. He would call into Tech Services with the most intelligent and thoughtful questions, clearly far beyond what we wold normally get. He so impressed me with his knowledge and continuing thirst for more information that I talked him up to many people in the company and several years later we hired him. He was a rare talent and i sorely missed by all that knew him. I keep the OptiCampus site and calculators on my server both in his memory and for the benefit of all of us.

Not sure about Punk Rock but it wouldn't surprise me. Darryl did LOVE Halloween though - it was clearly his favorite holiday. During Halloween he always came to work in the most elaborate costumes you could imagine.

Steve, thank you for keeping OptiCampus and its wonderfully useful calculators available. Even in retirement, I find ways to steer new Opticians to them.
I didn't know of your relationship with Darryl, but I'm not surprised that people of your respective quality found each other. How is it that the good ones (and the bad ones) seem to find a way to reinforce like minds?

What was he like? When you look at his pic and see his answers it almost seems like he was a very dead-pan straight to the point kind of guy.

He was very smart, a funny guy and as I said he LOVED Halloween. He definitely wasn't dour or difficult in any way. He was always a pleasure to be around.
