Curious to see performance parameters of this material. I'd guess very similiar to current 1.74.

"The 1.76 is significantly thinner than 1.74 high index and will be available in Tokai lens designs as well as most other lens designs offered through PAL and the Artisan Lab Network. PAL is partnering with Global Optics to be the exclusive distributor of the 1.76 lens material which will be available to other U.S.-based laboratories for those who seek to offer a best-in-class lens material."
I haven't seen anything yet if it's going to be approved by any major vision insurance.
30 Abbe so same as Poly. I'm assuming it is also very brittle like 1.74 too.
How can 1.76 be significantly thinner than 1.74.
Yay! "Your lenses will be 712 microns thinner with Tokai, ma'am.
Seems a little unfair to compare a Cr-39™ spherical lens to a 1.76 aspheric lens in an uncut form. Take a -5.00 sph in a 48 mm frame and 1.74 and 1.6 indexes you can reduce edge thickness 0.5 mm. Not that significant. Also a cr-39™ will be .7 mm thicker due to center thickness requirements. Please note that using a smaller frame, most of the aspheric design is in your edger bucket. Great dispensing (shape and size) can do more for cosmetics. I think the trade off in Abbe isn’t justified. I could be persuaded to use 1.66 index. Also, the math for this lens 1.74 to 1.76 is 51.2 microns in thickness reduction

Didn't more sulfur get added to 1.6 to make the index higher?
Is this what they're doing??
I sure remember the stink those early dry edged lenses created!!!
A guru can kick in if this is a false memory.
Oh yeah, even 1.67 would stink when edged in office back in the day. Yuck.
Two things:
1. That's probably going to smell awful (btw, I mill all of my high- index and never have an issue with smell)
2. That hardcote and AR are going to be squiggly AF. No way they will have good index-matching.
