    How to politely refuse business

There are times where it’s a bad idea to take on a customer for various reasons, sometimes you can smell the trouble makers or pain in the butt customers, what’s the most polite way to refuse business without greatly offending someone. I know context maybe necessary but any general statements that can be used?

Back in the day, growing up on the mean streets of Worcester, MA the expression "screw" usually got your message through loud and clear.

You might want to run that by Corporate before you use it as we are in a new era. You don't want to be quilty of committing a violation of someones social injustice or discrimination.

I had a gentleman one time that I felt was going to be a problem. I politely said, "Sir I think that you and I are going to end up bumping heads, and I think we both would be happier if you had your prescription filled elsewhere." He insisted that I was wrong, and that we were going to get along fine. So I filled the Rx. Let's just say that I never made that mistake again. Go with your gut, and send 'em down the road before there are headaches and lab costs on top of the refund. Let them make someone else's life miserable.

Simply politely saying "I will not be able to provide the service you want, and cannot help you" is sufficient. You don't have to bend over backwards, after all they are not your customer, and you want to keep it that way.
