My profession ruined Top Gun Maverick for me

New Years Eve and we're too old to do the party gig. Just the two of us at home with a cocktail and Top Gun Maverick.

So Tom Cruise is in the middle of training pilots to save the world. He's out on a sailboat in rough water with the love interest. Both wearing product placement RayBans. Next scene he's dropping her off at her house and she's a motorcycle passenger with no eye protection. What the Hell? No eye protection on a bike? Where are the cops to issue a ticket? What happened to the RayBans? Did they go overboard as they docked? Is Maverick no longer a stud who would dive under the dock to get them back? Those puppies are expensive now. And not the quality that they used to be. But I digress.

Now. Who cares about the movie? Not me. I'm thinking back to Tombstone when Wyatt Earp is heading out to avenge the death of his brother and a close-up of his eyes shows that Kurt Russell is wearing soft contacts in 1881. Damn, I thought they came out in the 1970's.

And don't get me started on Ed Harris in Radio. Set in 1976 good old Ed is wearing RayBans (notice a pattern here?) that have the logo printed on the front of the right lens. We all know they didn't start doing that until the 80"s.

Happy New Year's Eve, my butt.
